(John 14:21, 27 NIV)
Do you see the strong connection between these two verses? Verse 27 flows out of verse 21. The Father loves you. That’s where your peace comes from. Jesus loves you. As He shows Himself to you, that’s where your peace comes from. When you get to know someone who loves you more than His own life, you come to know peace personified. You come to rest in the arms of the Prince of Peace.
Jesus gives you His peace. It is markedly unlike the surface-deep peace the world has to offer. The cheap version of peace found in this world is fleeting, circumstantial, and external. The peace that Jesus gives you, the world cannot take it away. It flows out of the immovable, unchangeable nature of His covenant love for you.
“‘Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,’ says the Lord, who has compassion on you” (Isaiah 54:10 NIV).
His love can never be taken away from you. His covenant care for you can never be shaken or removed. This is where your unshakable peace comes from. This is why you can live out Jesus’ instructions, ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (v. 27).
Have you had a deep drink from God’s river of peace today?
