Amazonian Wednesdays 🌴

Today’s edition is a ministry story from October 2021:
**************************
Marcela felt death closing in on her frail body. She was in the ICU, fighting to breathe. She was 72 years old. Covid was agonizingly close to extinguishing her life. “I felt like I was freezing. Death was right there with me,” she shared afterwards with deep emotion.
After eight days in ICU, her daughter decided to bring her home. The hospital said they could do nothing further for her.
“I was still alive, but my life was hanging by a thread,” Marcela explains. “Peace was gone from my soul. I was deeply depressed, feeling death surrounding me. In my despair, my heart cried out. I desperately wanted to find a church. But not just any church. I wanted to find one where the power of God was moving.”
Jesus heard the cry of her heart. At just the right moment, a friend invited her to our church. She learned that we were going to hold baptisms that weekend. Marcela resolved in her heart, “If I am going to die, I want to go to heaven. I have to get myself there!”
We hold baptisms on the campus of our Pastors Training School. A beautiful stream runs through the property there, perfect for this purpose. However, the campus is an hour trek outside of the city. This includes a couple of miles over very rough terrain through the jungle.
Nothing was going to hold Marcela back, though. She was determined to live whatever life she had left for Jesus. Somehow, her family managed to get her out there for the big day. The baptismal service commenced. “I was so weak, I felt like my lungs were closed. But I let them put me in that cold, cold water.”
Something glorious happened as Marcela went under the waters of baptism. “Just like Naaman was healed by getting in the river, so was I!” she joyfully exclaims. In those moments under the surface, she felt all of her intense discomfort washing away. She came up from the water transformed, both spiritually and physically. Every last trace of Covid and its effects were gone from her body. She was a new creation in every way!
My friend, through our surrendered lives, God is still in the business of doing miracles. We see them very regularly here in the Amazon Jungle. I believe this is because the people here, even before they know Jesus, have a supernatural worldview. Once they get saved and surrender their lives to Him, it is not a complicated transition to now expect to see the supernatural happen in the positive ways that come with the Kingdom of God. They are expectant with simple faith, and they frequently see Him doing absolutely amazing things.
How about you? Are you hungry for His move in your life? Thanks be to God, “who forgives all our sins, and heals all our diseases!” (Ps. 103:3) “All” means all, right? Ask, and you shall receive. I am believing Him for a miracle for you, too, today!
The miracles are just amazing Jennifer. We worship an amazing God.

Just finished reading “Miracles Today” by Dr. Craig Keener!
What an amazing account of verified divine intervention!

He notes that for those who are “adamant that miracles are impossible, [they will] reject any amount of evidence. If I already trust God, I will thank God for even the smallest details of my life.”

Sounds like an amazing book! I have one like it somewhere, don’t remember the exact name but it sounds pretty similar. I haven’t had a chance to read it yet. My pile of books that I want to read grows faster than the rate that I am able to accomplish the desired reading!

What an awesome testimony, Jennifer! I truly believe God rewarded Marcela for her determined, “whatever-it-takes” commitment. After what she had gone through, it really took faith and courage to go down into that cold water!
