When we are fearful instead of faith-filled, God does not feel snubbed. He does not take it as a personal insult that we haven’t fully trusted Him yet. He is absolutely, unwaveringly secure. He doesn’t need anyone’s vote of confidence to prop up His mood. He is ever absolutely brimming over with peace, joy, steadfastness, and love.
No, God is not offended by our fearful hearts. Instead, He want to comfort us. He wants to reassure us that the enemy will not be able to attack forever. He is coming with unstoppable justice. He will have His vengeance on all the enemy hosts that have hurt the ones He loves (that’s you and me!).
Understanding this will open up for you a new level of freedom in your communication with God. When you know that He is unshakable in His tender, patient stance towards you, you can pour it all out to Him. You can even pray prayers like this:
“Let death seize them; let them go down alive into hell, for wickedness is in their dwellings and among them” (Ps 55:15, NKJV).
Yes. This venting of anger is actually in the Holy Book. In this particular psalm, David was overflowing with angst and grief. His close companion had betrayed him. He was barring no holds as He unleashed His feelings to his God.
Now, I am not going to encourage you to literally call death down on people that have wounded you. What I am encouraging you to do is share with the Lord the full extent of your anguished feelings. He can take it. He actually really, really wants you to unload your burden on Him this way.
Not only can He take your raw emotions, He can also handle your painful questions. I personally am so very glad for this! During a time when I was processing some deep heartache, I wrote this to God:
“When I ask You the why questions, tears flowing, it’s actually an expression of faith and trust – that You care, that you are big enough to handle my questions. Hesitancy to bear my heart would be an absence of this trust and confidence.”
What is in your heart today? Without hesitation, without second guessing, voice every last feeling, every last thought, every last question to the One who loves you more than His life. He is closer than the air you breathe, receiving all of it with infinite love. Then, when you have spent it all on Him, nestle in. Snuggled into His chest, hear Him say,
“Don’t be afraid. I am coming. I will come to save you!”

Feeding On Jesus 
I had to hit like because there’s no love button. AS my relationship with Abba has deepened I’ve come to talk to him as I do my friends (my real friends – people with whom I’m completely vulnerable and safe) . My prayers have taken on authenticity because of the absolute trust in Abba. I’m not afraid to tell him I’m angry or I’m scared despite my trust in Him. I’ve found that even the situations I thought were “bad” have turned into absolute blessings: blessings to pass on to others. That’s truly good news.

One of the blessings of having three first names (Gregory Alan Joel) is that I answer to any of them. My biggest fear is hearing all three together. My Mom would use that whenever I was in trouble. I go by Greg, but Ms. Opal (the namesake of our urban farm) calls me Joel. She said I look like a Joel rather than a Greg. At 93 years young, she has earned the right to call me anything she wants! I really like it when she calls me “you young people”. At sixty-one I love hearing that!

When I hit the neighbors’ cat with my car going 45 mph, prayed over him, and saw him get out of the box, perfectly fine, then days later prayed again for my daughter’s 12-year migraine problem and saw nothing, I was angry with God. I poured out my frustration to Him, telling Him that one day we would meet and He was going to explain to me why I could say ONE PRAYER for a stupid cat and see it resurrected, but see 12 years of prayer for my precious daughter go unanswered. I was prepared to get struck by lightning for my rant, but He recognized this as a statement of faith – faith that He knew why, and someday would explain it. He extended more grace to me than I ever would have expected – He answered the question right then and there! [From my book “BARRIERS (So, if prayers are so powerful, how come mine don’t get answered?)”]
