“My name is Wagner. I am 16 years old. Jesus saved me from drug addiction. I had become so pale and gaunt, completely lost in darkness. It hurt me deeply to see how my mom was suffering daily because of me. I was drinking too, all night and all day. She would wait through the night for me to get home, her heart full of pain and anxiety.
“One day, I had a dream. I saw the agony I was causing my family. I saw how utterly lost and destroyed I was. Something inside of me said, ‘Go to the church. God is going to forgive you.’ I felt Holy Spirit calling me, and I responded to His call. He changed my life completely. I have decided to follow Jesus. I have such amazing joy in my heart now!”
My friend, this young man is one of the firstfruits of our new church plant in Nauta! As you read this, the building is going up in that wonderful city. I get tears in my eyes, as I open my phone to the photos and videos coming in each day.
I am bursting to tell you more about what is going on. Well before the construction is even close to being finished, we have hungry souls meeting together on the property where the church is being built. In order to hold services, they are crowding together into a wooden structure we put up to provide shade for the construction crew. Weekly, new believers are being added, before we even have a comfortable place for them to meet. The harvest is ripe in Nauta, Peru!
Earlier this year, we were all set to buy the piece of property we had selected for the building. Just when we thought it was about to be ours, we found out it had a legal encumbrance on it. Its purchase was, in fact, impossible, contrary to what we had been led to believe. We sensed in spirit that the enemy was pushing back against our initiative to take territory for the Kingdom of God in that city.
It’s no surprise that he would do so. Nauta has a population of 45,000 people. It’s a commercial port where multiple rivers come together, a hub for the region. And it has never in all of its history had a strong church. Only the tiniest of congregations have managed to survive there. Witchcraft has long predominated the spiritual atmosphere. We also found out very recently that Nauta has been a major hotspot for human trafficking for years. So, as you can see, the enemy has a whole lot to lose in that place.
