Zero Failure Risk

“He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended” (Ps. 62:2, NET).

What a wealth of treasure there is to be found in this verse! Let’s first take a look at a couple of the phrases in the original language. The word “protector” here comes from the Hebrew, “my high rocky summit.” Likewise, the word “refuge” in Hebrew is “my elevated place.”

Both of these descriptive phrases communicate such a vital truth: our safe place in God is up high. He has seated us with Christ in heavenly places (Eph. 2:6). When we live out of the place He has given us, we are protected, untouchable. Hidden with Christ. Under the shadow of Shaddai, the Almighty. Tucked snugly under His wings.

Let His Word speak to your heart today that you are safe in Him. He has bought your security with His blood. Just as a high rocky summit is out of reach, so you are out of the reach of your enemies. When you draw near to God, His presence wraps around you as an impenetrable shield. He is the shield around you. The TPT rendering of this verse expresses it beautifully too:

“He alone is my safe place; his wraparound presence always protects me. For he is my champion defender; there’s no risk of failure with God. So why would I let worry paralyze me, even when troubles multiply around me?” (Ps. 62:2, TPT).

His wraparound presence… is that not such a lovely way to describe His closeness that keeps us safe? It “always protects me.” My champion defender!

And there’s no risk of failure with God. He’s been emphasizing this to me over and over and over again recently. He’s never failed you and me. He never will. He’ll never let us down. It’s impossible, for it would go against His very nature, which is pure faithfulness.

Ah, but what about our own failures? Couldn’t we ourselves mess things up, throw off the plan? No, there’s no risk of that either. You are not powerful enough to mess up God’s plan. As long as your heart, the core of you, belongs to Jesus, your weakness and missing of the mark are not a force strong enough to detain the purposes of Heaven.

Grace is your master now. The Spirit of the Lord will continually take you further into the freedom purchased for you. Keep inviting Him in to transform you by His power. He surely will!

Do you have a favorite verse about God’s protection? If so, I’d love to hear which one it is!

  1. I memorized Psalm 125: 1-2 when I was quite young as this scripture helped me through a very rough-vulnerable questioning time. I knew his arms were wrapped around me, always
Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion. It cannot be moved; it abides forever. 2As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people, both now and forevermore.

  3. Hi Jennifer, two of my favorite verses of protection are found in Psalms 91. I’d like to present them in TPT; “When you sit enthroned under the shadow of Shaddai, you are hidden in the strength of God Most High. He’s the hope that holds me and the Stronghold to shelter me.” (verses 1 & 2)

    1. Yes! That’s exactly what I was referring to, though I didn’t quote the whole verse. That very passage from the TPT were ministering to me so much this week that I was in tears. So my spirit lit up with excitement to have you quote them here, thank you so much my sister!

  4. Jennifer, I appreciate the definitions at the beginning of your discussion. One of my favorite passages from the Bible is Apostle Paul’s testament about the armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-18.

    1. Yes! I am so with you on that one, Richard. It has become a vital part of my day, before I even get out of bed, to put on the armor with the Holy Spirit’s presence accompanying me in doing so. Then I feel dressed for the day!
