He IS a Rewarder

“He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Heb. 11:6, NKJV).

Notice something about this sentence. God is a “rewarder.” This means that rewarding us is not just something He does. It’s who He is. It’s part of His identity. It’s a fundamental aspect of His nature. He delights to reward our diligent seeking of Him.

Remember this when you come to God. Approaching Him is the context of this same verse: “He who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

When you come close to Him, do so with the underlying assumption that you will be rewarded. God cannot deny His own nature. First of all, believe that He is. Believe that He got there to your meeting spot even before you did. He is waiting there for you, eager for time with you. Focus on the truth of His “very present” closeness (Ps. 46:1). Use the eyes of your heart to look at Jesus, at His smile welcoming you (Eph. 1:18, Heb. 12:2). Those who come to Him, He will never turn away.

Sink your soul down luxuriously into the assurance of His loving response to you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you (James 4:8). He yearns jealously for you. He wants intimacy with you far more than you yourself have ever desired anything. Think about it. What is that thing that you have most intensely desired in your lifetime? He longs for you far more passionately than that (James 4:5).

Meditate on who He is: a rewarder of you. Seek, and you will find.

As you draw near to God, the most important way He will reveal Himself to you is through His Word. A wonderful tool for studying His nature through His written Word is the website, biblegateway.com. I highly recommend the rich resources they provide for free on their site!

When you pray, do you focus on God’s nearness and eagerness to respond to you?

  1. “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and its righteousness, and all these thing shall be added unto you”- Mathew 6:33…. Having lived life to this point, it’s the absolute truth!
Just serving God solves every problem. The rewards are constant

  2. This is something I practice every day, reading God’s word and spending time in silence to better my relationship with Him. I struggle since days for the motivation, but I’m getting better at asking God for strength during these times.

    Thank you for sharing. 😊

  3. One of my favorite verses. Literally in the Greek it means He pays wages. I have employees working for me and when they start work they do not get paid for weeks so it is with us. The reward comes in due time and He is ever so faithful.
