Broken Beyond Repair… Or Not?

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10, NKJV).

This verse makes an impossible claim. If you look at the Greek, you will see why. The original word translated “lost” here is apollumi. It means “destroyed, ruined, broken beyond repair.” Jesus was actually claiming that He could save that which was beyond saving. That He could repair that which was beyond repairing. Yes, impossible.
