Jesus Cares Deeply about Mental Health

What was that noise? Another spirit haunting my house?! Am I losing my grip on reality?! Silvia looked anxiously behind her as she searched frantically through her belongings. There it was, the slip of paper with the psychologist’s phone number. She punched the numbers frantically into her phone. Her heart raced as she listened to the ringing.

“Dr. Aida? I was given your number by a friend. I desperately need your help. I’m so afraid that I’m losing my mind!” After blurting out those words, Silvia held her breath, waiting for the reply.

“I have a solution for you, ma’am, but it’s not an appointment with me,” Dr. Aida responded gently. “I’m on extended travel and can’t be available anytime soon. I am going to give you the number of some pastors that met me in my own time of need.

“They helped me recover from an abusive relationship that had left me feeling absolutely worthless. As a result of their ministry to me, I was able to build a new life. I got a college education and was given a wonderful fresh start. I know they will help you too!”

Dr. Aida gave Silvia the number for our church. Soon, the broken woman was in Pastor Carmen’s “chair,” pouring out her heart. “I used to be a successful businesswoman, but I’ve lost everything,” she sobbed. “I don’t know what’s become of me. In my desperation, I moved in with an abuser. In fits of jealousy, he locks me into a room. On top of everything, I keep seeing ghosts. All the time, I am afraid!”

Pastor Carmen looked at her lovingly. “First things first,” she said firmly. “Do you want peace in your life? Do you want to be free? Do you want the angel of the Lord to accompany you wherever you go? Do you want to be saved? Do you want to go to heaven?” With each of these questions, she paused and looked directly into Silvia’s desperate eyes.

To each one, Silvia gasped out an eager, “Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!”

“Wonderful! Then let’s pray,” Pastor Carmen responded. She led her in a prayer to give her life to Jesus. Immediately, the atmosphere shifted. With a deep, relieved sigh, Silvia breathed out, “I feel better!”

Pastor Carmen then connected her with a cell group leader, Deysi. Deysi immediately made her feel welcome and loved.

Just a few days later, Silvia arrived for the service. “Pastor!” she exclaimed. “I am so happy in your church! I now have a new set of friends to go out with. That’s exactly what I was needing. They speak such wonderful encouragement over me. I feel so good!”
