“Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger” (Ps. 8:2, NIV).
Do you sometimes wish the noise in your thoughts would just… hush? When life feels chaotic, we need what this verse has to offer. When the enemy is working overtime to convince us of his lies, we need the voice of the foe and the avenger silenced. We need God to put the enemy on mute, and for Jesus’ sweet voice instead to fill our hearts up with His truth and peace.
So how do we get there? As this Scripture expresses, it’s through the praise of children and infants. You and I are the children of God. However, to fully enter into what is available to us in the kingdom of heaven, Jesus said we must become as little children.
“And he said: ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven’” (Matt. 18:3, NIV).
In childlike trust, we learn to turn over all our burdens to God our Father. We allow Him to carry the heavy stuff. In doing so, we find ourselves safe in His stronghold, where the noise and lies cannot reach us. The key to this is also found in this Scripture: it is praise. We grow up into childlikeness, as we incorporate regular, frequent praise of our Father into our lifestyles.
Do you have something really hard going on right now? If so, there has never been a better time than now to lift up to Him a sacrifice of praise. From the posture of Abba Father’s dearly loved child, begin to praise Him with all of your heart for who He is. If you don’t have much strength, use the little bit that you have and praise Him on purpose. It’s exactly when it costs us something… when it’s not easy… when we don’t feel like it… that it counts most as a sacrifice of praise.
It’s this kind if praise, expressing our trust in the Father of our souls, that activates the spiritual principle in our verse for today. Childlike praise silences the enemy. It shifts us into a new place. It enables us to get our eyes on the One who is far bigger than everything we are facing. Any time the enemy is getting noisy, remember this.
So lets get our praise on today!
“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name… for with such sacrifices God is pleased” (Heb. 13:15-16, NIV).
I found this very encouraging. Thank you Jennifer 😊

Yes and amen! I have found praise to be one of the most powerful weapons at my disposal. There have been some times where it felt almost impossible (like after losing my son), but making that choice which really is a safrifice gets my eyes on the lord instead of my problems and shifts the whole atmosphere to one of joy and trust. Such a game changer!
