Angels on Patrol at My House

“For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him” (Ps. 34:7, NLT).

Yesterday, I shared a friend’s testimony of angelic intervention. While I’m on the subject, here’s a recent story from my own life.

Across the street from my house, there is a building with a security guard. We often wave to him when we leave or return home. Recently he related this experience to us, told from his perspective, about something he saw happen in front of our house:

“Well past midnight, I was startled to see a group of delinquents coming up our silent street. As you know, we don’t usually have that kind of people coming around here. So I was really nervous. There was only one of me, and quite a number of them. What would I do if they confronted me? They were clearly looking for places to break in and steal.

Just then, I looked up, and noticed something that surprised me. In front of your house, there were two big, intimidating men standing. There was one on each side of the door. The troublemakers stayed well clear of them as they continued on their way. I watched them moving on down the street, and I saw that those big men did not budge an inch.

I took my eyes off those tall, muscular guys for a moment to observe how far away the rough group had now gotten. They were nearly out of sight. When I then returned my gaze to where the big men had been in front of your house, they had vanished. I looked up and down the street, and they were no where to be found. In such a split second, there was no where that they could have gone into. They had simply disappeared.”

Hmmm. Two big, buff men standing guard at my house… that then vanished when the menace had passed…

I’ll tell you. It’s a nice thing to have a security guard working on your street. It’s a much nicer thing to have the angel of the Lord on patrol!

Why do you figure God has decided to use angels to guard and protect us, when He Himself has infinite power and could do so without their help? Curious to hear your thoughts on this.

  2. Jennifer, this is a beautiful story. I have heard several other people describe instances just like this. It is comforting knowing we have Angels protecting us. I hope you are doing well. Scott

  3. This testimony is so great!! I often wonder the same….since Our Lord has infinite power and is omnipresent, why does he send his angels if His Holy Spirit can do what they do? Maybe because God is a God of order and His Word doesn’t just ring true on earth, but also in heaven. If we are told in scripture that every part of the body has meaning and the eye cannot say to the hand that they don’t need each other…then the operational body of the Kingdom of Heaven has a whole purpose, but so do the individual parts….including the angels. He has revealed several purposes for the use of angels. We know one is protection, another is being a messenger, another is fighting battles in the realms of heaven. They are the soldiers that fight for us Hallelujah!! I wonder what is the purpose of the elders in heaven, and are they angels?

  4. My humble thought on your question: The things God asks and directs us to do in His service, He could do Himself and much better and faster. He includes us because of His love for us so to join Him in His working of His plans. It is such an honor to us for Him to include us! I reckon it’s the same with the angels.

    1. I really like that answer, G.W. I have no doubt that you are right on with this! As the Father takes delight in His creation, He must have a special enjoyment of His servants, the angels, and making them part of His purposes and plans. Thank you so much for sharing this 🙂

  6. I, too, have heard stories of protection by supernatural “visitors,” and miraculous interventions. But, as I am sure you know, our faith must rest on the Sender of these agents, and in His word. He will sustain us even when He does not provide such interventions. ❤️&🙏, c.a.

    1. Thank you for reminding us of this. I have been reading Dr Helen Roseveare’s book on holiness and she faced horrific abuse, as she stood in love and truth and grace. Oh may our God count us worthy of His calling, that by His power He may fulfill every good purpose of ours and every act prompted by our faith in Him.

  7. I have had one angelic encounter……could it be they are there in the end to even strengthen our faith? Because an encounter like the one you just shared is something to remember and remind us of GOD’S word to us……PSALM 91!!!!

      1. On both surgery days……one nurse had on small cross earrings. The next surgery there was my operating room nurse that wore a head cover up in bright blue with white letters all over it and right in front in bold it said: GOD!!! I was so thankful because I had prayed: LORD be with me. I need you. And then I saw both of those details HE sent right to me! In AWE!

  9. I love this. I had a mentor a few years ago (a Grandma of faith), who prayed for angels to stand guard over our house and all those in it. Thank you for bringing that precious prayer to mind.
