“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matt. 5:14-16, NKJV, emphasis mine).
A recent dream that I had took place at a park. In it, I had the briefest contact with a mother who came there to pick up her son. I saw that she also came to pick up a translation device that she needed because she spoke another language. The desire stirred in me to share Jesus with her, but she was already leaving. I tried to call after her, but it was too late. She was already gone. However, I then heard God talking to me in the dream. He told me that her brief, wordless encounter with me had already impacted her for His kingdom. He said that His light inside of me was at work in her, just from being briefly in my vicinity.
Two weeks later, I had another dream in which I was deeply desiring to share Jesus with a friend who doesn’t yet know Him. Again, Holy Spirit spoke into my spirit. Carried along by His anointing, I expressed out loud in the dream, “I should be able to hang out with her without being preachy. If there is an abundance of the Father’s presence in me, she will feel His love just by being with me. And that will be more than enough.”
Two dreams in two weeks. Double emphasis! So I believe Holy Spirit is wanting to emphasize this to us today. Notice that Matthew 5:14 doesn’t say “Try to be the light of the world.” You don’t have to try. You just are! You are the light of the world because Jesus, the Light of the world, lives inside of you. As our Scripture for today also tells us, it’s impossible for His light within you to be hidden. It shines out brilliantly in the darkness. I believe He wants you and me to become more aware of this reality:
His kingdom is inside of you. All the fullness of who King Jesus is… lives within you. Wherever you go, His kingdom goes. You may not be able to see it with your physical eyes. However, He wants to train you to see His kingdom reality flowing in and through you with your spiritual eyes.
He reminded me of this the other day when I was riding in a motocarro (our local taxi, as shown in the picture). He whispered, “You really do carry My kingdom wherever you go. You really can release My presence everywhere. Pray for this driver. Pray for this street.” So I did. And I know that the path through which I traveled was impacted for His kingdom, even though I couldn’t see it with my eyes.
One more thing about my two dreams. In the first, the woman I saw needed a translation device because she didn’t know the local language. That speaks to me of those around us needing someone to “translate God” for them. They haven’t yet learned His communication. That is why you and I are there in their lives. We don’t have to be preachy for them to see Him in us. They will know us by our love. As we emanate the love of Jesus in our actions, words, body language, and lifestyle, they will see Him. His light will shine on them, and it will go to work in their hearts.
Wherever you go today, practice looking with your spiritual eyes. Know that the light of the world within you is real, even more real than what you can see with your physical eyes. You really can release Jesus’ presence into the atmosphere around you. Ask Him to train you how to do that. He absolutely will!

Do you believe that you shine with His light, even when you are having a difficult day? Does the brightness of His shining through us depend on our feelings on any given day?
Great post, Jennifer. I love that you mentioned that we can show God’s light and love without being “preachy”. I am also intrigued with the thought of releasing God’s presence into the atmosphere around us. I’m going to pray to that end today. Thanks so much for giving us things to ponder.

Lovely post, as usual, and practical for a believer. And it reminds me of a point I make whenever possible, that we must remain ready to be a beacon of light even when, due to life’s burdens, we don’t really feel ready. It is a battle I am enduring right now due to my mother’s health, and prayer is appreciated. But we never know when that moment will happen in which we must arise and make a difference in the lives of others; it is a responsibility and an honor we cannot brush off, and He will help us respond if we stay open to the moment.

That is such a vital point Mike! Brings to mind that moment in Jesus’ life when his cousin was beheaded and He needed to get alone and process. But when He tried to, the crowds followed Him. So instead of tending to His own needs first, He tended to theirs, and then He finally did get alone with the Father, and stayed up all night to do so. I am saying a prayer for you right now, for strength and comfort and encouragement with what you and your mom are going through 🙏

Thank you much. She might shake this off, but she’s going to have to decide she wants to. We’ll see. God is good.

Maybe two years ago I started to feel my default mindset flipping from pessimisn to optimism. Bad things happen, and I still miss seeing some good things, but I’m prepared to proactively move through both. Accepting God’s grace has enabled me to shine a “relentless positivity” outwards. This includes a modicum of tactfulness so I know how to embody this in the right way for those around me in any given day, and it helps me be ok not being ok.
Therw are still tough times, but God always has my back. 😊

All of that is so good, Hamish. What a major and wonderful life change that represents, to relentless positivity! And also that is such important wisdom, to stay sensitive towards others and towards Holy Spirit in terms of what and when to say things in this regard 🙂

Our very words and actions in the every day are a reflection of His light. I have told people that I try very hard to watch myself because how I act, what I say and do, that it my witness and it is so very easy to mess that up by one careless word. Because we are being watched, and what people see, that may be the only ‘church’ they get.

Yes, our lives really are living epistles. May God empower us more and more by His Holy Spirit to walk in Jesus’ steps, that we would resemble Him in this world! Thank you so much, Rebecca, for your thoughtful comment, I so appreciate it!

I don’t wear someone else’s light
everyone has their own light in themselves
the dream is the mouthpiece
the soul
to our consciousness
I see with my eyes
inwards and outwards
i’m a simple person
in daily training
in the service of the soul
to believe means to trust
on the
which is not real
