In 2014, I had a dream that has now become reality. In it, the streets of our city, Iquitos, were completely empty. Not a soul was to be seen, even on the busiest avenue in town. I never anticipated a literal fulfillment of this dream. And yet, the last month has brought us exactly that.
When I reflect on that vision of the night, this Scripture comes to mind:
None of you told us before it happened… I, the Lord, was the first one to tell…
I look at the idols, but there is not one that can answer.” (Isa. 41:26-28, NCV).
Here, God is pointing out that He is the only one who knows the future. He’s already been there. He’s there right now. My dear friend, He is not chewing His fingernails frantically nor losing sleep as He considers what is to come. On the contrary, He is overflowing with peace. He knows His plan is perfect. He knows it includes infallible care of you and your family.
This passage goes on to say, no idols can give us any answers. In other words, no false props can hold us up or offer any legitimate solutions. Right now, He is the only one we can truly lean on. There are no answers anywhere else. He has sole ownership of this role: successfully directing the future. He carries it out flawlessly.
His intricate designs include nurture for every blade of grass, for every creature huge and tiny. He assures us, nothing escapes Him. Not even the fate of a single sparrow. “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows” (Matt. 10:30-31, NKJV). If He gives tender attention to even the weeds popping up in your yard, how much more will He provide for you? You, who are worth the highest price of all to Him? You, for whom He shed every last drop of His own blood?
You know, He gave me that dream in 2014 to remind me of all these truths. He also gave my daughter Anna a dream not long ago, during this quarantine. In it, she saw all the members of our family in the future. She and her siblings were all grown up. Each of them had wonderfully successful careers.
When she woke up, she came to tell me about it. She smiled and explained, “I think God gave me this dream so I could have peace. He wanted to let me know that everything is going to get back to normal, and just get better and better from here. He has a beautiful future for all of us.”
Do you hear the Father speaking that same message to you right now? The One who is already there is whispering to your heart that He has a beautiful future for you. He has plans not to harm you, but to bless and prosper you abundantly. Lean in and listen, dear one. Let Him breathe hope into the depths of your spirit today! Do you hear Him?
“Tell the righteous that it shall be well with them” (Isa. 3:10, ESV).

Hi Jennifer, always good to read the devotional. Am so glad God has showed Anna the future that it will be well. I had a dream of my husband and I going to the market and found a lot of food, the stores were full of product. What caught my attention most was how plentiful and fresh the vegetables were, of all kids. I had the pleasure to just sort through and select what i wanted – just abundance! Reading this today reminded me of Gods assurance that it is going to be well and much better than what we are in today.
We have been so blessed during this time by working from home and not worrying about us or our families. We see His hands all around us – His peace is sustaining our hearts – John 14:27 (NIV) has been one of my favorite verses:
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am looking forward to the future, but not for things to “get back to the way they were.” I sense that God is working on me through all this, and I hope that I will never be the same again.

Hello Jennifer. As it is written: “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit” (Joel. 2. 28-29). As you also know, Jen…we are to ‘write the vision and make it plain…’ You have done just that…whereof, God is glad.
