Note: Our Understanding Your Dreams series will continue on Monday 🙂
I was reading through one of my journals the other day and smiled when I found these words I had written:
“WOW.
I can’t get over how AMAZING that drone footage is! To see the things I have been seeing for years from a new, higher perspective, there’s just no words for how cool that is. What a spectacular video!”
That day, I had watched a new video put out by a dear pastor friend of ours. On a missions trip a month before that, he had taken the footage I was describing. He went through a whole lot of red tape to get his drone through the Peruvian customs department. I’ll tell you, though, goodness was it worth it!
I don’t have adequate words to tell you what an impact that visual had on me. For sixteen years, I had been seeing the same sights that he had just filmed. (This year I will celebrate twenty years as a missionary to the Amazon Jungle!) But this time, I was seeing those same familiar places in a dramatically new way: from high above them.
This was markedly different than viewing them as tiny dots from an airplane. I could see every detail, yet each one was far “below” me. The drone camera’s perspective allowed me to take in the wide, sweeping, majestic beauty of the area, while retaining the familiarity of the scenes I have such affection for. This sent a thrill of exhilaration through my heart. I had seen plenty of drone footage of other places in the past, but never before of my very own home.
As soon as I wrote the above quote into my journal, Holy Spirit spoke to my heart. I immediately knew that the drone’s-eye-view was a spiritual picture. This is what He was saying through it: Everything changes when you view reality from the higher place, seated in the heavenly sphere with the Savior. “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus” (Eph. 2:6, NIV).
When we become attuned to our elevated position in the spiritual realm, it alters our point of view radically. Where is this seat that we enjoy with Jesus? Where is He positioned? The previous chapter gives us this answer: “…seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named…” (Eph. 1:20-21, NKJV).
Wow! Jesus is seated far higher than every enemy we will ever face! When we realize that we are seated with Him right there in that same position, it transforms the way we pray. We, too, are seated far above every name that can be named, in Him. Therefore, we no longer perceive prayer as something we are trying to send “up” to Him. Rather, we are right there with Him, wrapped up in His everlasting arms. Just like Jesus is in the bosom of the Father (John 1:18), we are in His bosom. From that protected place, we partner with Him in His intercession.
From our superior position seated with Jesus, we have the proper prayer perspective: God is carrying out the management of the universe with impeccable precision and immeasurable power. The burden of holding all things together is on Him, and He carries it without the slightest strain. He has simply invited us to let His prayers flow through our spirits. We can snuggle in and rest in His perfect competence at His job. From way up here, the world’s problems, in fact, look rather tiny. To His immensity, they really are. Handling each circumstance is effortless to Him.
Seated far above every concern, then, we breathe in His presence, and breathe out His prayers. “We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us…” (Rom. 8:26, NIV). Holy Spirit does the interceding, as we offer ourselves as His vessels of prayer. He intercedes for us, through us. He knows exactly what to pray. His prayers are mighty and effective, and He eagerly pours them through our willing spirits.
So, dear one, snuggle in closer. Ask the Father to illuminate the eyes of your heart so you can perceive your lofty position in Jesus. Ask Him to show you His Holy Spirit “drone’s” vantage point of whatever challenge you are facing today. Then invite Him, from that perspective, to pray His prayers through you.
As you do, remember. “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results” (James 5:16, NLT).

Have you experienced praying from the perspective of being seated with Jesus in heavenly places?
What an amazing reality this is…”When we become attuned to our elevated position in the spiritual realm, it alters our point of view radically…
I was just sharing this exact thing yesterday with a dear friend of mine and the Lord has given you an amazing way of capturing what I shared. Thank You Lord for these words and for the messenger….
Wow, how amazingly true this is….
“You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. ….John 15:14-15
