Amazonian Wednesdays 🌴

I smile fondly, revisiting this formational experience of God’s faithfulness from January 2003:

Israel could not sleep. For three hours he labored in prayer, and he cried out for the expansion of our territory. He was asking the Lord to give us the piece of land near our church building, that we might expand with our growing vision for the youth ministry. Awake, he was dreaming of a leadership school to train cell group leaders, and possibly a private school for children during the daytime. After the Lord moved him through some other prayer subjects, he finally fell asleep around 7:00 in the morning.
We were in the United States. The following evening, Israel received an e-mail saying that the piece of land he had been praying for was for sale. The owner was giving priority to the church, since she felt the church was deserving. Though the land is worth around $25,000 USD, she was willing to sell it for just $5,000.
Wonderful! The only problem was that we did not have $5,000. We were still believing God for the funds to finish paying of the cost of our trip to the States (which He has since faithfully provided). What to do? A friend suggested that we sow into another church’s vision, believing God for a harvest in our own. Israel’s first thought, in the natural, was, “I need $5,000. Is this really the time to be giving what I don’t have?” However, after prayer, we felt led to sow the largest seed we had ever sowed into the building fund of a church in Indiana.
