“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life” (Phil. 4:6-7, MSG).
Ester came into my room with an exasperated look on her face. “You have got to pray for me, Mom! I am so frustrated.” Her math tutoring session was not going well. She was struggling terribly to understand what the tutor was trying to explain to her. And he was losing his patience, causing her to further tense up.
I reached for her hand and closed my eyes. “I don’t mean right now!” she exclaimed, surprised. I ignored that remark and began to pray. I calmly entrusted the situation to Jesus and asked for His help. I invited His presence to come and intervene. After a few simple sentences, I squeezed her hand and smiled. She smiled back and returned to her tutor.
After the session was over, she practically skipped back into my room. “Mom! That was incredible. Immediately after you prayed, things got 100% better. I started understanding perfectly everything he was saying. And the tension in the air completely disappeared too!” She was literally gaping with amazement.
I smiled again happily and began to sing, “O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry Everything to God in prayer!” She looked at me with her Ester look (she is used to me bursting out in song), and then contentedly continued with her day.
Yes, He really does care about everything in our lives. Everything, absolutely everything, is worth praying about. Immediately. No matter what is going on, take a pause. Invite Him into it. He will come.
What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Has Jesus intervened to help you recently in the daily affairs of your life? I would love to hear about what He did for you!
