NEVER Give Up!

Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work (James 1:2-4, MSG).

An amazing thing has happened. It has changed my life. I am not exaggerating. I am going to tell you about it tomorrow. But first, for today, I want to tell you about how the Holy Spirit prepared me for it.

The back story is this: For years and years, I have endured life with painfully slow Internet service here in the Amazon Jungle. Just for the record, I live in an actual city here, the city of Iquitos, Peru. Iquitos is the capital of the Amazonian region named Loreto. Our city of 600,000 is carved out of the rainforest and surrounded by rivers. You can only get here by airplane or boat; there are no routes in by road.

I had dialup Internet service here for way beyond the time that old technology even continued to exist in the U.S. We finally “caught up” with alternate Internet technology, but it has continued to be slow, slow, slow for my twenty-two years living here. I am talking about a few hundred kbps. Or sometimes, as impossibly slow as 50 kbps.
