Suddenly Aware

“They were in the midst of a discussion about all the events of the last few days when Jesus walked up and accompanied them in their journey. They were unaware that it was actually Jesus walking alongside them, for God prevented them from recognizing him” (Luke 24:15-16, TPT).

Are you aware that Jesus is walking alongside you? He is. His presence is so close, all the time. As the Psalmist acknowledged,

“I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from your presence!
If I go up to heaven, you are there;
if I go down to the grave, you are there.
If I ride the wings of the morning,
if I dwell by the farthest oceans,
even there your hand will guide me,
and your strength will support me.
I could ask the darkness to hide me
and the light around me to become night—
but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.”
(Ps. 139:7-12, NLT).

There is no way to get away from the immediate presence of God. However, so often in life we are like the two men in this story, unaware that Jesus Himself is right by our side.
