Making an Impact on the Utmost Ends of the Earth

Amazonian Wednesdays 🌴

Me about to give birth to Ester at the time of this archived writing from August 2003

A special aspect of our summer times is that we receive groups from churches around the States who visit us to come alongside our ministry and bring unique ministry gifts to build up the church and reach out to the lost.

This last June-July, a group from Grace to the Nations, Centro Cristiano Esperanza, and Christian Faith Center, Tucson, AZ, came down to Iquitos for a successful missions trip. They blessed us by painting our church building and helping out with the medical clinic mentioned in last month’s newsletter. They also were able to take a river trip to the area known as Santa Rita. One of the team members, Natalie Cooper, nineteen years old, tells of the experience:

“Well, our river trip to Santa Rita was good! Even though it took us twenty-six hours by boat to get there, we were all blessed. The first couple days we held about three services a day. Pastor Jose and and Pastor Mauro spoke to the church there, then afterwards we prayed for anyone who wanted prayer.

“One service was particularly memorable. Pastor Jose spoke on the gift of tongues, and afterwards asked who there had not received the gift of tongues who would like to. Almost the whole church came forward! Not five seconds after Pastor Jose started praying for them, everyone simultaneously began speaking in their new languages! It was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. The sound in the room was so loud as everyone was touched by God at that moment, people were speaking in tongues, crying, worshipping God… it was a beautiful experience!

“We were also able to do a children’s service while we were there which was a lot of fun. There were about thirty to forty kids who came. We sang, told Bible stories, played games, prayed and gave out candy. The children were very open and were very happy to listen and participate in the service. We also held a medical clinic there. Eliana, a nurse from Iquitos and her brother, Richard, who is a dentist, saw almost eighty patients altogether.

“We gave out hundreds of vitamins, pain relievers, calcium pills, antibiotics and more to people who would probably never receive them otherwise. Richard pulled twenty-one teeth that day also! We were also able to pray with every person who came to the clinic! Those were the main points of our river trip. It was a great trip and I believe that everyone was encouraged by it!”
