Jesus Your Immovable Rock

“The Lord is my rock, my protection, my Savior. My God is my rock. I can run to him for safety. He is my shield and my saving strength, my defender” (Ps. 18:2, NCV).

I said to a friend not long ago, “It feels like I’m in deep waters, and I can’t feel anything solid under my feet.” That was my way of expressing the sense of uncertainty that I was experiencing. Nearly immediately, Holy Spirit brought a song to mind that I hadn’t listened to in a long time, of which I did not remember the words. At His nudge, I found it and listened to it.

It was Phil Wickam’s, “The Secret Place.” As I listened and hummed along, Holy Spirit pointed out part of the lyrics:

“You are the Rock on which I stand
You will not let me go
I know that I am safe inside Your hands”

Yes. My Rock. Jesus is the solid surface under my feet. It’s Him. It’s my Savior. He is the Rock on which I stand.

So I wanted to share that with you today. During these times of uncertainty, even if it feels like we are lost in immense deep waters, we are not. If we put our feet down, there He is. Our Rock. Under our feet, we will find firm solidity. Immovable steadfastness. Unshakable safety. Unfailing strength.

Once He imparted that word to my spirit that day, He kept repeating it afterwards. I think it’s come up about ten times now, whether in articles, emails, verses shared by others, blog posts, social media, others songs, and so on. He really, really wants me (and you) to get it.

One of His creative ways of reiterating His point was to bring my attention to a page in my volume of Inspiring Psalms. This is the NLT version of the Book of Psalms, interspersed with verses to color. I absolutely love it. Look at what page He used to grab my attention (now colored by me):

Yes, indeed.

“The Lord is my rock, my protection, my Savior. My God is my rock. I can run to him for safety. He is my shield and my saving strength, my defender” (Ps. 18:2, NCV).

By the way, here is Phil’s song, if you, too, need Holy Spirit to minister this truth to your heart today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wnf4X86iylY

P.S. I highly, highly recommend putting on worship music, coloring, and soaking in His presence. This has been a lifesaver for me during quarantine.

Have you incorporated coloring, or other forms of artistic expression, into your devotional times? If so, what are your observations about this practice?

    1. Aw, I am so very glad it encouraged you! This imagery of Jesus as my Rock has gone deeper and deeper into my heart and helped me so much. I rejoice that He is your Rock too, never moving and always available!
