“The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail” (Isa. 58:11, NIV).
The battle is intense. Sweat is flying in all directions. Your muscles ache. Your throat screams in thirst.
Spiritual battles are real. The spiritual realm is just as real as the physical realm. In a way, it’s even more real in the sense that it’s eternal. This world that we can take in with our five physical senses is passing away. The world that we can perceive with our spiritual senses will never end. That world, the heavenly realm, is all around us, and it dictates to the physical realm.
So yes, conflict going around you in the spiritual realm is real. And when you go through a spiritual battle, it can get exceedingly intense. During such times, Holy Spirit wants to remind you and me of this truth: the strength available to us in Him is unlimited. Granted, there are plenty of moments when you and I feel extremely weary in the fray. However, every single time, God is going to renew our strength.
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak,” (Isa. 40:29, NIV).
As I know you are aware, it’s not that our own personal strength is unlimited. Quite the contrary. We quickly come to the end of our own strength. Where then does the word “unlimited’ come in? Our available strength becomes limitless through our connection to God. As Jesus instructed us, we need to abide in Him (John 15). In doing so, we receive the continual influx of His life, as a branch joined to the Vine.
As soon as we are worn out, we simply are to draw near to Jesus. Another way to think about it is in terms of a phone battery. The presence of God is like those chargers where all you have to do is set the phone on top of the charger. Simply by staying in immediate proximity, energy pours into the device, until it’s all charged up and ready to go again.
Jesus will meet you. Every single time. This will be your lived reality: “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isa. 40:30-31, NIV).
Did you notice that part there about not growing weary? That is the end result. The further we journey with Jesus, the more our endurance increases. Much like a long-distance runner trains until they can go further and further without tiring out, we gradually become less prone to wearing out quickly in spirit. The strength of the Lord becomes more and more our own. We learn to draw constantly on the sap available through our living connection with Him. We move further and further into a lifestyle of abiding.
Do you feel weary today? You are in good company. All of us run out of strength. God made us with depleteable, rechargeable batteries on purpose… so we would need Him. He is what you and I need today. Let’s draw near to Him, and He will tenderly, eagerly draw near to us. Unlimited strength is available now. Let’s lean into the One who loves us more than life, and find His life pouring into us even now!

What have you personally learned about receiving new strength from God when you need it? I’d love to hear any life lessons you have to share with others from your journey!

Blessings Jennifer for this post! Amen to a Savior whose strength will help us to the finish line. Over a year ago, my wife and I spent two months providing home care for my mother after she broke a hip. The surgery was successful, but she needed lots of care and love. My wife and I needed Jesus with us every step of the way. We were not prepared for what our duties would entail, but Christ’s light brought us to the finish line.

I feel the Lord’s immense pleasure in your willingness to serve Him in such a priceless way. As you did it unto your mother, so you did it unto Him. Every single bit of effort, He took into account as precious worship unto His name. I am so proud of you as your sister in Jesus for loving Him so well! It makes me excited to see your eternal reward for taking care of your mom in her hours of great need. Blessings to you, Richard!
