“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God” (Rom. 8:14, NIV).
You and I are led by the Spirit of God. This is a given, once you have surrendered your life to Jesus and received Him as Savior. The moment you did so, His Spirit came to live in you. Holy Spirit is a seal, guaranteeing our inheritance in God (Eph. 1:13-14).
Our Scripture for today is one of many that assure us of the guidance of Holy Spirit in our daily lives. In fact, there are more verses in the Bible promising God’s guidance than there even are promising His salvation (and there are certainly plenty of those too!). We can rest completely assured that His eager desire and promise is to direct our steps.
At the same time, He also takes us through a life-long training course on being led of Him. We get to imitate Jesus, who depended completely on Holy Spirit for everything He did (Acts 10:38). Jesus did nothing except that which He saw the Father doing (John 5:19). In order to imitate Him, we need to learn to do nothing except that which we see our Abba doing. In order to watch and follow what He is doing, we need to be able to see Him.
That’s where Holy Spirit comes in. Jesus told Nicodemus that being born again by Holy Spirit enables us to see the Kingdom of God. So being born of the Spirit is what opens our spiritual eyes. The new birth gives us new eyes to see. Holy Spirit begins to empower us to see into the Kingdom realm. We can begin to perceive the Father and His movements, and follow Him.
The more we grow up in Him, the more we learn to develop our spiritual senses. “But solid food is for the [spiritually] mature, whose senses are trained by practice…“ (Heb. 5:14, AMP). As we do so, we become increasingly tuned into the presence and guidance of Holy Spirit. He works patiently with us to bring us to the point where our every moment is led of Him. Spiritual maturity means we walk through each day in unbreakable union and communion with Him. It means that every word we speak and every move we make flow out of connection to Him and dependence on Him.
I am really struck by the bold statement Jesus made, that He could do nothing on His own (John 5:19). If the perfect Son of God so needed Holy Spirit’s continual guidance and empowering, what does that say about you and me?
Holy Spirit, thank You that we are led of You. Bring us on in You from glory to glory, until we are keenly aware of Your slightest movements and whispers!

Are you aware of Holy Spirit leading you through your day each day? If so, how would you describe your experience of this, in your own words?

Such a great word! Here’s what struck me: “We can rest completely assured that His eager desire and promise is to direct our steps.”
I believe this wholeheartedly. And it’s a very important reminder. One way in which I think we position ourselves to be led by Holy Spirit is to take captive every thought and to make it obedient to Christ (2 COR 10:5).
Not always easy in this fast paced, racing thoughts induced world. But so necessary in order to see and imitate the Father. 😊

I wholeheartedly agree, Charles. This is so important, so we can have a quiet enough heart and mind to tune into what He is saying to us. Thank you so much for sharing such a vital insight to this discussion :). Rich blessings!
