Old Treasures on Tuesdays 👑
When we are fearful instead of faith-filled, God does not feel snubbed. He does not take it as a personal insult that we haven’t fully trusted Him yet. He is absolutely, unwaveringly secure. He doesn’t need anyone’s vote of confidence to prop up His mood. He is ever absolutely brimming over with peace, joy, steadfastness, and love.
No, God is not offended by our fearful hearts. Instead, He want to comfort us. He wants to reassure us that the enemy will not be able to attack forever. He is coming with unstoppable justice. He will have His vengeance on all the enemy hosts that have hurt the ones He loves (that’s you and me!).
Understanding this will open up for you a new level of freedom in your communication with God. When you know that He is unshakable in His tender, patient stance towards you, you can pour it all out to Him. You can even pray prayers like this:
“Let death seize them; let them go down alive into hell, for wickedness is in their dwellings and among them” (Ps 55:15, NKJV).
Yes. This venting of anger is actually in the Holy Book. In this particular psalm, David was overflowing with angst and grief. His close companion had betrayed him. He was barring no holds as He unleashed His feelings to his God.
Now, I am not going to encourage you to literally call death down on people that have wounded you. What I am encouraging you to do is share with the Lord the full extent of your anguished feelings. He can take it. He actually really, really wants you to unload your burden on Him this way.
Not only can He take your raw emotions, He can also handle your painful questions. I personally am so very glad for this! During a time when I was processing some deep heartache, I wrote this to God:
“When I ask You the why questions, tears flowing, it’s actually an expression of faith and trust – that You care, that you are big enough to handle my questions. Hesitancy to bear my heart would be an absence of this trust and confidence.”
What is in your heart today? Without hesitation, without second guessing, voice every last feeling, every last thought, every last question to the One who loves you more than His life. He is closer than the air you breathe, receiving all of it with infinite love. Then, when you have spent it all on Him, nestle in. Snuggled into His chest, hear Him say,
“Don’t be afraid. I am coming. I will come to save you!”

Do you perceive God as a safe place to share the raw, unedited, unpolished parts of your soul?
I’m so thankful that the psalms (and other books of the Bible) were not sanitized at some point, leaving only what is lovely and noble. That’s proof for sure, that God wants us also to lay out our negative emotions and sin, so he can forgive and redeem. Then we can experience his glorious peace and presence again. What a wonderful Father he is!

Aaamen to that, Nancy! Such a beautiful invitation to be real and raw with Him, and to anticipate His redeeming intervention as we do so. His love is beyond amazing! Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment 🙂

Wonderful post and love what you wrote in your journal. I have written similar things in mine. I have always said , I am going to be honest with God with my feelings. He can handle them, his shoulders are broad and He already knows them so why not be honest. its freeing to be be able to cry out and say I don’t understand, I don’t like this, etc. but to also be able to say, But I know you are in control and your love for me is incomprehensible! ❤ Thanks for this post, my friend.

I love hearing that you process that way with Him too, Joy. What a friend we have in Jesus! So caring, so understanding, so ready to listen and comfort and strengthen, and then to also bring fresh perspective that we need. I rejoice that you experience Him this way too!

Lately, so many of my prayers sound like this: “Dear God, HELP!!!” And I’ve learned that’s okay.

Absolutely. That is sometimes the most powerful prayer! That’s the kind that brought about such dramatic intervention from God in Psalm 18. Praying for you right now for extra grace and peace, my precious sister.
