When God Puts His Name on You

So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them” (Num. 6:27, NIV).

Do you recognize this verse? It comes directly after the beautiful priestly blessing well known to many of us. If you weren’t familiar with it before 2020, you probably are now. It became even more a powerful part of our lives when Kari Jobe and Elevation Worship turned it into an anthem in the midst of that painfully difficult year.

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace” (Num. 6:24-26, NIV).

Where do blessing and peace come from? We find that answer here in this Scripture passage. They come from the identity of the Lord, from His name. They come when He puts His name on us (v. 27, above).

He has put His name, Everlasting Father, on you. That makes you a beloved, cherished child of God. It makes you part of His family, forever. It gives you a place in His household that you can never lose. His identity gives you your identity. His treasured one is who you are.

He has put His name, Prince of Peace, on you. He has marked you as His. The seal of His peace is upon your heart. That makes you someone that gets to live with a gift of peace that this world can never take away from you. Peace in every circumstance. Peace at all times. Peace to protect your heart and mind. A child of peace is who you are.

He has put His name, the Good Shepherd on you. That makes you His lamb. That makes you someone whose built-in nature is to know His voice and follow Him. That makes you someone He would give everything to protect. No one can snatch you out of His hands. Protected and safe is who you are.

He has put His name, the Lord our Healer, on you. That makes you someone who has an inheritance of health and wellbeing. It means that the healing of your body, soul, and spirit, is your birthright, now that you are born of His Spirit into His Kingdom. It means that restoration is to become part of your lived reality, on earth as it is in heaven. Healed and restored is who you are.

He has put His name, the Lord our Provider, on you. That makes you one that will always be cared for. It brings you into His estate. It makes you a co-heir with Christ. It means that you will lack for nothing; that you will have all that you need, every day of your earthly life until He takes you home. Prosperous in body, soul, and spirit is who you are.

So, the Lord bless you with the revelation of these truths, deep in your heart. May He keep you protected by them. May He turn His face upon you, and may you perceive the kindness of His eyes as they contemplate you. May the light of His countenance illuminate your spirit with this knowledge of who He is and who you are, because you are His. And may the result be great peace that increases daily on the inside of you, as you glow with the warmth of your belovedness.

The Father spoke over Jesus, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Did Jesus, too, need to be reminded of His identity, when He walked this earth in a human body?
