The Trust-O-Meter

“Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment” (1 Tim. 6:17, NLT).

I have heard more than one anointed minister say these words: “Don’t waste your trials.” That wise advice comes to mind as relevant for the current season in which we find ourselves. What does it mean? Simply this. This trying time is packed full of hidden blessings. Daddy God wants to do some very special things for us right now. One of the most important gifts He has in mind is to move all of our hearts deeper into trust.

Do we trust Him with our future? How much do we trust Him? The following verse is the perfect “Trust-O-Meter” — “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” (Isa. 26:3, NKJV). Perfect peace correlates to profound trust. Here’s the inverse: it’s in those places where we aren’t fully trusting that we lack peace. Daddy longs for us to have perfect peace. Therefore, He longs to take us deeper into trust.

Let’s take a look at the above verse from 1 Timothy. Holy Spirit lays out for us a contrast: trusting in money, versus trusting in God. What is the main characteristic He uses to describe money? Unreliable. What is the main characteristic He uses to describe God? He “richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment”. Our Father delights to lavish on us everything we need; not only for our survival, but even for our enjoyment! He delights to see us smile. Truly, such a good, good Daddy is worthy of our trust.

Right now, so many of us are learning the truth of this phrase, “the uncertainty of riches” – at a deeper level perhaps than ever in our lives (1 Tim. 6:17, ESV). Dear one, with all the love of my heart I want to share with you, this is so good for us. It’s during these times that Daddy will use the discomfort of our circumstances to move us so much further into freedom… the freedom of profound trust in Him.

Where does this trust come from? Here we find the answer: “And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you” (Ps. 9:10, ESV). It comes from knowing Him; knowing His name. His name is His identity. Knowing His name means becoming intimately familiar with who He is. It means experientially knowing His nature. The closer we walk with Him, the more we experience the goodness of His heart… and the more we come to rest confidently in this absolute truth: “You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.”

So what does this time of quarantine mean for us? It’s time to get to know Him better. Time to go deeper into His heart. Time to get gloriously free from trusting in money. Time to move into the blissful liberty of unshakable trust in the heart of our infinitely loving Father.

He speaks to our hearts today and He tells us, “No matter what happens in the world’s economy, you belong to Me. You are Mine. I take perfect care of My own, of the ones I cherish beyond possible expression. That, precious child, is you.”

Go deeper into His heart in this season. Trust. Rest. The One who loves you more than His life holds your future in His nail-scarred hands.

  1. Loved this post Jennifer 😊. Just this morning ( my time) I had my women’s bible study ( meeting online) and we were talking about leaning more into God, trusting Him and the good that times like this can bring about.

  5. Wow, rich truth… Here are a few words I shared this morning that came from meditation in Obadiah 1…

    False security is trusting in and relying upon our own “so-called” ability to do, to protect, and to handle things. But then when the Lord unleashes a small smidgen of His fury, we soon see and realize that we really can do nothing without Him…

    I’m praying that we soon fall on our knees and turn our hearts to the Lord, rather than trying to figure this thing out and flatten the curve. This is spiritual….

    “The vision of Obadiah.

    Thus says the Lord God concerning Edom
    (We have heard a report from the Lord,
    And a messenger has been sent among the nations, saying,
    “Arise, and let us rise up against her for battle”):
    2 “Behold, I will make you small among the nations;
    You shall be greatly despised.
    3 The pride of your heart has deceived you,
    You who dwell in the clefts of the rock,
    Whose habitation is high;
    You who say in your heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’
    4 Though you ascend as high as the eagle,
    And though you set your nest among the stars,
    From there I will bring you down,” says the Lord….

  6. Hello dear sister in the Lord,

    I would like to share what the Lord has had me concentrating on recently, because of my own present condition, related to TRUSTING GOD.

    #1 As your piece states- we develop trust by getting to know God. We cannot nor do not trust someone we just met. How can someone trust God, if they are not spending time with God, on top of that to make matters even more difficult is the fact God to many exists invisible.

    #2 what prevents many from beginning, commencing, investing that time , daily, to get to know God?

    STRONGHOLDS.

    The question many of us have asked is: why should I pray today, and ask for forgiveness when inside I know I’m not ready to stop doing what I know I shouldn’t? Shouldnt I wait until I’m ready? Why should I pray today, if I know im going to do what i shouldnt later today or tomorrow? Why should i put myself in this position of instant guilt, shame, pain, etc?

    Going back to strongholds: a person who is an inmate is restricted by the cell y steel bars that hold him. His liberty to move, act, is limited , he can only act freely within the free area, or within the cell bars, door.

    The prisoner gets out, and the whole world opens up..no more steel bars holding him back or locked doors. He sees nothing but the clear horizon on a gorgeous day.

    Ahhhhhh, what an illusion, is it not?

    For millions upon millions, for which I am one at the present hour, exist ,and are restricted ,confined, to act within the area of our PRISONS.

    THESE PRISONS EXIST. THEY ARE REAL. PROBLEM IS WE CANNOT SEE THE METAL CAGES WE ARE IN CALLED STRONGHOLDS.

    WE ADAMANTLY PROFESS WE HAVE FREE LIBERTY, AND WE ARE MAKING OUR CHOICES…

    BUT it doesn’t make a dam, or no difference, the prisoner is NOT free to wander outside of the cell until the cage door is open,

    And we in the same manner are not free until we break the yokes and are delivered by the almighty power of God. It is HE that delivers us from the STRONGHOLDS. so many at this hour, cannot even see the bars..going around professing how free and happy they are, or how they are on the right road, when they can’t even see the misery they are in..

    I pray to GOD this helps someone. I write this to open up a forum of discussion, to lead others to be one step closer to freedom.. ONCE WE BREAK OUT THE CAGES, MAKE NO MISTAKE, FREEDOM IS NOT ‘IM OUT, IM DELIEVERD NOW IM GOOD’

    NO SIR REEEE. SIN ,THE WILFULL INVOLVEMENT OF SIN, WHICH IS DIRECT DISOBEDIENCE, LEADS US RIGHT BACK INTO THE CAGES, ONLY THIS TIME THE BARS HAVE MULTIPLIED IN DIAMETER,IN THICKNESS , AND THE CELL HAS NOW MOVED FROM THE SECOND LEVEL TO THE DUNGEON.

    1. AT the CROSS of Christ ALL SINS can be forgiven FOR ALL TIME. The chains are gone I’ve been set free. The blood of Christ has ransomed me. Trusting In Him and His shed Blood and staying in a place of returning to His Presence and a simply prayer asking for forgiveness. You illustration above is relevant to the non-believers but to the born-again ………..Once only REDEMPTION…….a constant flow if access to the shed River of Blood…..FORGIVENESS.

      2. Faye, I believe you to be sincere..for we have corresponded previously. In my experience, Forgiveness is distinctly different from deliverance. Deliverance applies to ALL, believer, and non believer. We indeed have forgiveness for our sins through the ransom made, by that precious blood of Jesus Christ. Forgiveness, however, does NOT free us of consequence. I being a believer in our Lord Jesus Christ, can and have chosen to deliberately take part in SINFUL things, if there were no consequence nothing would stop me from continuing.., what puts a halt on sinning, is the consequence…which is a painful existence of suffering, torment, attacks, bondage, loss of control, I know because I have been set free…but I allowed myself to be entangled once again. Deliverance cost, it requires work. If i commit adultery, and I’m a believer, if i repent and ask for forgiveness..yes there is forgiveness available…but that does not relieve me of any spiritual attachments,bonds, ties I formed with the other person I slept with, not to mention any spiritual ties they may have had. What a mess.

  7. From personal experience I absolutely affirm. It is in the down and difficult times when we TRUST only HIM that we learn and grow into knowledge of Him and our personal contact increases.
