“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10, NKJV).
There is something absolutely vital to understand about the sequence here in Jesus’ utterance. It’s this: the second sentence trumps the first. Abundant life vanquishes the works of the devil. Every single time.
This is not ying and yang. This is not a struggle between two equivalent opponents. The devil is not Jesus’ counterpart. If anything, Michael or Gabriel might be considered the devil’s counterpart. But when Jesus announces, “I have come that they might have life,” His majesty thunders out over the universe. The devil and all his minions tremble in terror. They must flee before His voice.
