Meet Bevy

Bevy is 18 years old. In March of last year, the Holy Spirit convicted her heart during one of our meetings, and she surrendered her life to Him. She went to our Encounter youth retreat, plugged into discipleship, and has been serving the Lord with all her heart since then. Her grandmother, a faithful sister in our church, had prayed her into the kingdom. Bevy related to me later how she could not stand to see her grandma, who raised her, crying because of the things that she used to do. Bevy was ripe for the harvest, and the Spirit drew her in. 

A few months ago, the youth cell group that Bevy was attending was about to fall apart, as the leader had become discouraged and decided to stop holding meetings. As young as she is in the Lord, Bevy decided to do something about it. She explained to me that she couldn’t just sit there and watch her cell group dissolve, and all those young people be lost.

She took initiative, and went out to invite the members to come together once again. She started leading the meetings, with our blessing. Even though she lives quite far from the church and her family does not have much money, she finds a way every week to get over to our side of town to lead her cell group and encourage its members in the Lord. We like to tell her how proud we are of her! 

Bevy is a young woman of faith. She had no money with which to go to the conference we attended in Lima in October, but a desire burned in her heart to be there and “learn more about the things of God.” She kept declaring in faith, “I am going to go! I am going to go!” Her cousins asked her, “But how? You don’t have any money!” She replied, “It doesn’t matter, I am going to go!”

A few days before we left, she still didn’t have any money at all. At church that night, there was an altar call to pray over the group that was going to Lima. She marched up boldly to the front, still believing that God was going to make a way for her to go, in spite of the fact that the money required was the equivalent of a month’s wages for many Peruvians. And somehow, God did make a way! Three days later, she was on an airplane for the first time in her life, heading to the conference, full of anticipation and joy at God fulfilling the desires of her heart. Truly, nothing is impossible with God!
