From My Journal: A God with all Five Senses

Old Treasures on Tuesdays 👑

Journal

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea” (Ps. 46:1-2, NKJV)

Again, I will intermingle phrases from my journaling with my thoughts for today about them. This particular entry was a prayer to God expressing revelation of His closeness:

“Yesterday in the taxi, You told me that You, too, have all five senses, like I will in heaven.”

Here I was making reference to another heaven book I read, where the author shared her testimony of being translated to heaven. She wrote that, when we get there, we will see, taste, feel, hear, and smell just like we do here on earth, except everything will be exquisitely enhanced. Every fragrance, every musical note, every color, every flavor, every sensation will be deeper and sweeter. So what He was showing me that day was that He, too, experiences all five senses in an indescribably keen way, all the time.

“That helped me understand how present You are in my reality, ‘… a very present help…’ Understanding that He is right here, seeing the colors that I see, smelling the scents that I smell, feeling the breeze that blows softly on me, taking in the air that comes into my lungs, hearing every sound that marks my environment… this brings home to me how very present He really is. He is a very present help, unceasingly.

“You are a Being present with me, a Personality sensing all that I think and feel.”

Not only is He experiencing our immediate physical surroundings; but He is also intimately aware of every thought and emotion that courses through our soul, every second of every minute of every day. He is listening to and seeing and feeling the inside of us as well as what’s on the outside.

“You are Immanuel, experiencing my world and environment just as I do, with me, in the deepest sense of the word.”

Immanuel is wrapped up with all of your thinking, all of your musing, all of your sensing, all of your dreaming. Exult in your oneness with Him and drink in His closeness today!

Have You experienced His closeness? How would you describe it?
