Live Forgiven

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:7, NIV).

This verse is so comforting to me. It speaks to my heart that the blood of Jesus, right now, is purifying me. This applies to every moment of my existence, and to yours too, if you belong to Him. His precious blood cleanses us continually.

Here we learn the context for this cleansing: to live in His light. If we are living in relationship with Him, then we are living in His light. God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. Once we enter into a lasting, lifelong relationship with Him, we have entered into His light. We have become one with the Spirit of Jesus, the Light of the world. “But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit” (1 Cor. 6:17, NIV).

Since Jesus, the Light of the world, is one with our spirit, His light shines inside of us and through us. It’s like we are the lamp, and He is the lightbulb and the source of electric power. This is why He calls us, too, the light of the world (Matt. 5:14).

So here we are, living in His light. In the liberating luminescence of His presence, His blood continually makes us clean. We are clean in His sight. He even chose us before the world began to be blameless before Him. What glorious liberty! We don’t have to live weighed down by shame or guilt, even for a minute. The one whom the Son sets free is free indeed. You are forgiven, and you are clean, my friend. Live forgiven. You belong to the Light of God. You are blameless, forever!

How does knowing that the blood of Jesus is continuing cleansing us change the way we experience daily living?

  1. Wonderful assurance here, Jennifer. Praise God the sacrifice of Christ not only atoned for our sins of the past, but cleanses us moment by moment, freeing us to live in the joy of experiencing His presence and living for His glory. Such an amazing reality!
