Daddy Wants to Carry That for You

Pensive

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:6-7, NKJV).

Did you know that God doesn’t intend for you to carry anything heavy in your emotions… at all? This is why He invites us here to cast our care upon Him. The concept is simple, yet deep. If we cast our concerns on Him, then He will carry them and we won’t need to.

Just about every day, the enemy will try to load us up with something heavy. His regular practice is to dump burdens onto our shoulders. Sometimes he does this through a piece of unexpected, unhappy news. Sometimes it’s the way a certain somebody looked at us cross-wise. Sometimes it’s an impatient, snappy word that came our way. Sometimes it’s from watching too much news proclaiming the terrible state of the world. Sometimes it’s our deep concern for someone we love who is hurting or lost.

Yes. Every day, there are countless legitimate reasons to feel heavy. This is precisely why Daddy God invites us to intentionally heave all of our cares onto Him. He longs to receive each one from us, to lighten our load. In fact, He doesn’t want us lugging around any load at all. He wants to do all of our heavy lifting. The enemy’s strategy only works if we willingly shoulder the load. If we instead turn it over to Daddy, the enemy will lose. Every time.

Somewhere along the line, I learned a very practical exercise that helps me immensely with this. I have a feeling it will greatly help you too. So here are the steps:

  1. Pay attention to when that heavy feeling has started to afflict you.
  2. Let Holy Spirit search your heart and identify what the source of it is.
  3. Picture that concern that He just showed you as a package.
  4. Visualize His huge hands held out in front of you.
  5. Set your package into His waiting hands and watch them take it away.

Do you see how our Scripture for today references the mighty hand of God? He is colossal, and we are tiny. Our needs are very, very small compared to how enormous His hand is. It can most definitely handle whatever we turn over to Him. “Humble yourselves,” it encourages us. This means that we are to acknowledge that we are diminutive and vulnerable, and He is immense and strong. That He’s got us. That He’s carefully providing for all of our cares and concerns. That He cares so deeply for us. That He will lift us up at just the right time.

“Unload your burden on Adonai…” (Ps. 55:22a, CJB).

“Turn your worries over to the Lord…” (Ps. 55:22a, NIRV).

“Leave your troubles with the Lord…” (Ps. 55:22a, GNT).

“Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be moved…” (Ps. 55:22, AMPC).

Will God’s hands drop you? What do you really believe? I don’t mean mental acquiescence. What’s in your heart of hearts?

  1. I have used this image for several years and it has helped me immeasurably. God is faithful and always takes what we give Him. May I add one other point, though? It may be too late for your readers and I am sorry bu maybe you can use it at some other time. I have found the final thing I have to do is trust God and turn and walk away, leaving the package with Him. Too often I am tempted to pick it up and take it back as I return to my life. Just a thought. I have found it equally helpful. God bless you, my dear sister in the Lord.
