“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 8:38-39, NKJV, emphasis mine).
“…That you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height — to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Eph. 3:17b-19, NKJV, emphasis mine).
Recently, Holy Spirit graciously pointed out to me the connection between these two Scriptures (both of which happen to be favorites of mine). From the emphasis I added by bolding, I’m sure you can quickly see why. Both of them include a direct reference to the dimensions of existence. The terms “depth and height” communicate bigness, as big as bigness can get.
The first passage lists out for us all the things that can possibly be painful to us in life. This is in addition to what verse 35 had spelled out: tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, and the sword. (I bet you haven’t had to face famine, nakedness, or the sword yet. Neither have I.) As you can see, He has truly covered all the bases of possibility as far as pain goes.
His point in creating such a comprehensive list: Not a one of these things can put up a blockage keeping Daddy’s love from reaching us. Not a single one. His love will always find us, always enfold us, always lift us up, always comfort us, always strengthen us, always heal us, always restore us to wholeness.
Nothing to be found in all of the immeasurable height or depth of the whole universe could keep His love back from us. Why? Because absolutely all of the length, width, depth, and height of the entire creation is filled expansively with His love. There’s absolutely nowhere we could go to get away from it. It fills everything and every place. His love saturates reality to all the farthest reaches of existence, in every direction, in every dimension.
Holy Spirit’s prayer in the second passage above is that our heart would grasp this. That we would come to personally, intimately, experientially know this love that surpasses all knowledge. That, in coming to absorb and internalize its reality, we would be filled to all His fullness. Filled to overflowing in the knowledge of our belovedness in Him.
Does it seem out of your reach to be able to internalize Daddy’s vast love for you, in your deepest heart? Let the very next verse encourage your heart today: “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…” (Eph. 3:20, NKJV).
He is able to reach your heart of hearts with this radically transformational revelation of His love. He is able. It’s not anything we could do for ourselves; it’s His power at work in us that makes this possible. Right now, this very moment, His power is fervently at work in the depths of you to bring this revelation home to the core of who you are.
His love fills every space that exists. It reaches to the heavens and stretches out even beyond them. It’s all around you. Even now, it’s enveloping you. You’ll never get away from it. Nothing in all of creation can separate you from the expression and operation of His immense love!

What ways has Daddy used to get His love deeper into your heart? Relationships? Prayer? Study? All of the above? Other?
Jennifer, knowing that God is LOVE, and has expressed to all His creation, through giving His only SON to die for us, that we may be forgiven and return in Excellent relationship with the Father has said it ALL. As I reflect on my journey in life, since receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior, a common thread connects my experiences through Today ! – HIS LOVE. Each time I strayed, His love brought me back, each time I have fallen, His love picked me up, each time I suffered pain, His LOVE gave me COMFORT. Through His Word and Love, He is teaching me each day how to love Him more and to love others. Hoping that all who read this and walk with Jesus will know the LOVE OF THE FATHER. Amen len wisniewski

Jen, thank you for your thoughts on this subject💖. Love- understanding His and learning to give it- has been the stabilizing factor in my life. I hadn’t seen what you point out- He covers all possible ways a human could suffer- what God given insight.
In that list anguish is mentioned. This one has been quite the challenge for me. Time spent in His presence helps heal and get me through. I know I should be another person if it weren’t for thinking on who He is and what He is about, thoughts about how He has brought me through hard circumstances and blessed me with the gifts of marriage, children and grandchildren to love and serve.
It seemed that I could be left with no one-that has been the enemy’s plan. But I have learned God will give us people to love and love us. This is how He has made His love known to me 🙂
