
“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Prov. 18:10, NIV).
Are you needing to feel safe today? This is one of the most fundamental needs we have as humans. You know, though, where the ultimate safe place is? It’s in Jesus. In the crazy world we live in today, the only way to feel fully, entirely safe is in His arms.
Being safe in Jesus doesn’t mean that bad things are never going to happen anymore. Instead, His presence becomes insulation to all fear. His “wrap-around presence” secures us inside His perfect love that casts out fearfulness (Ps. 62:2, 1 John 4:18, TPT). Jesus showed us what this looked like when He took a nap during a storm that felt lethal to everyone else around Him (Matt. 8:24). He was wrapped up snugly in the Father’s love, and He knew both He and they were safe.
Our verse for today teaches us that we can run into His name and experience that safety our souls crave. What does that mean? Clearly, the “fortified tower” Holy Spirit describes for us is not a physical structure. Instead, that tower is His name. That is, the revelation of who He is, of His character, of His nature.
When we draw near to God, He reveals to us that He is a safe place for us to hide inside. He reveals His heart to us. We can let down our guard in the Presence of the One who loves us with an unbreakable, unconditional tender affection. We learn that He is protective of us. We learn that He is a shield around us.
