
“For every creation of God is good and no food is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving. For it is sanctified by God’s word and by prayer” (1 Tim. 4:4-5, NET).
Are you as excited as I am for Thanksgiving dinner? It’s been so much fun to introduce this celebration and its accompanying culinary delights to my Peruvian family. Israel’s parents and siblings look forward to it maybe even more than we do now.
They truly do follow the instructions in our verse for today and receive the rich spread with thankful hearts. This is something I have observed about living in a developing world country: I am surrounded by people who don’t take the blessings of simple delights for granted. A spread of turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, squash pie (in lieu of pumpkin, which is not available here), and the like is met with overflowing enthusiasm every single time.
