Entrusting Your Soul to Him

“The confidence of my calling enables me to overcome every difficulty without shame, for I have an intimate revelation of this God. And my faith in him convinces me that he is more than able to keep all that I’ve placed in his hands safe and secure until the fullness of his appearing” (2 Tim. 1:12, TPT).

Are you convinced, as this verse expresses, that God is able to keep safe and secure what you place in His hands? All the way up to the moment when He appears to take us all home?

Where did Paul get this assurance, when he wrote these words? I believe we find the answer there in the first sentence. “I have an intimate revelation of this God.” It’s knowing Him intimately that infuses us with confidence. When we can boldly declare, “I know whom I have believed” (same verse, NKJV), it flows out of a heart at rest. A heart that deeply knows that everything we entrust to Him is safe in His hands.

What about our very life? Have we entrusted it into His care? Does our spirit breathe out this following prayer to Him? “ Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life” (Ps. 143:8, NIV). Have we, in actuality, entrusted our entire life to Him? Given it completely over to His care?

What about our very souls, especially during times of suffering? Have we put them into His beautiful, capable hands? “Therefore, those who… suffer… must [continue to] do right and commit their souls [for safe-keeping] to the faithful Creator” (1 Pet. 4:19, AMP). When we walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, do we do this? Do we continually commit our souls into His safe-keeping? Do we leave them there in His hands of love, convinced of His ability to keep them safe and secure?

Here’s another angle to consider. For those of us who are passionate about spiritual growth, sometimes we experience our eagerness for progress as a heavy burden. We can become anxious about our development, worried that we aren’t improving fast enough.

This, too, is a real concern that He wants us to hand over to Him. He wants us to trust Him with the management our souls in this area as well. He invites us to abandon ourselves to His unfailing care, promising to faithfully transform us day by day. Do we trust Him in this process? Do we believe that He will come through?

“Now may God himself, the God of peace, make you pure, belonging only to him. May your whole self — spirit, soul, and body — be kept safe and without fault when our Lord Jesus Christ comes. You can trust the One who calls you to do that for you” (1 Thess. 5:23-24, NCV, emphasis mine).

“May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together — spirit, soul, and body — and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he’ll do it!” (1 Thess. 5:23-24, MSG, emphasis mine).
