Come and Behold Him

Come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant
O come ye, O come ye, to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him, born the King of angels
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

First of all, do you hear the Father speaking those words over you? He is calling you faithful. He is calling you joyful. He is calling you triumphant! Yes, you. You can take this song personally. It is for you. And if God says you are faithful, joyful, and triumphant, His very words are right now imparting faithfulness, joy, and triumph to your spirit.

Now, this part: “Come and behold Him.” Do you heart Him with your heart? Do you hear Him inviting you in closer? Come and gaze at the Savior. Come and look and linger. The more you gaze on Him, the more His own faithfulness will work itself into the fabric of your character. The more you contemplate the miracle of His incarnation, the more His joy will become part of your daily living. The more you come and behold Him, the more faithful, joyful, and triumphant you will become.

We can learn something from the very first people to receive this invitation: the shepherds, that first Christmas night. They responded to the angels’ message eagerly and joyfully. “The shepherds said to each other, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem and see what the Lord has told us about’” (Luke 2:15, GW, emphasis mine).

Just hearing about it wasn’t enough for them. They wanted to see Jesus. So do I. I know you do, too. He is the Desire of All Nations. We were born to long for Him.

Today, He is inviting us to come and behold Him. And in the beholding, to be transformed. “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit” (2 Cor. 3:18, ESV).

When you pray, do you “fix your eyes on Jesus”? (Heb. 12:2). Do you behold Him with the eyes of your heart?
