Involving Jesus in the Little Things

Ester and I ❤️

“So Jesus explained, ‘I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does’” (John 5:19, NLT).

Ester, my oldest daughter, came to show me the blouse she was thinking about purchasing. “What do you think about this one, Mom?” she asked.

“Have you asked Holy Spirit, honey? He always has an opinion about everything,” I replied, smiling at her. A few moments later, she remarked that she was feeling a definite sense of peace about the purchase. She bought the blouse.

Does that seem like overkill, getting Holy Spirit’s input about a $20 transaction? I honestly don’t believe it is. Here is the life model Jesus gave us to follow: “So Jesus explained, ‘I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does’” (John 5:19, NLT).

One might question, “But doesn’t that mainly refer to important ministry decisions?” Jesus said “nothing.” He did absolutely nothing without following the Father’s lead. The word “nothing” implies, not even the seemingly small and insignificant decisions of life. In other words, Jesus did not even move a muscle, upon waking in the morning, without leaning into the Father’s intimately present involvement.

This is how He invites you and me to live too. And what a beautiful, freeing way to do it! You know how when you are in love, you want to tell your beloved about absolutely everything? You want them to share in every tiny detail of your life? That’s how this is. Jesus wants to be a part of everything that matters to you. Every last tiny detail. How it thrills His heart when you allow Him to do so!

Every last question that ever crosses your mind… ask Him about it. Invite Him into the smallest particulars of your day. He really does care about every one of them. Imagine! He even cares about how many hairs you’ve managed to grow on your head. He literally thinks about you all day long. Knowing this, the Psalmist David exclaimed, “How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!” (Ps. 139:17-18, NLT).

He is holding His hand out to you right now, offering to lead you in His love throughout the day. Will you reach out and take it? Will you allow Him to be an intimate part of your every moment?

Have you experienced what it’s like to involve Jesus in “small” decisions during the day? If so, what has that been like for you?

    1. You always have Great Words to share. Thank You. Wow,I thought you only had Ester and Lily. Now I am adding two more names to the list to pray for, you in clued. Four bundles of Joy. I have to share with you about my daughter Verana. She has a Great Calling over her life. She thinks she has to quit her job. I said no, you just know, when the spirit moves you, to pray for that person. Or witness. She actually had a Pastor pray over her. Answer prayer!

    1. I do my best to visit my blogger friends’ blogs when I can (thought not nearly as often as I would like due to ministry and mom responsibilities), so I have been to yours occasionally, but if its a very frequent visitor, it’s probably another Peruvian fan 😀

      1. I’m pretty sure you’re the only one lol! Just checking. It’s not gonna be around much longer. I’m thinking about some. I just don’t think it’s being productive.

      2. (Sorry for slow reply, it sometimes takes me a few days to be able to check my comments with everything else going on. On top of the usual, my husband is recovering from covid right now. Thankfully he is doing much better). But I just wanted to share, I can relate to what you are feeling. I have asked God more times than I can count, if He wants me to keep going with the blog and podcast because of wondering whether the results are worth all the work that goes into them. It’s definitely easy to feel discouraged about it when the fruit is pretty intangible. I pray that He leads you forward with His peace and clarity and encourages your heart about the special work He has just for you. You are a great blessing, John, and you shine with His light!

  2. This is a reminder of involving the Wisdom OF god the HOLY spirit in all the small events of our daily lives. Seek HIs Aid and Guidance, But also TRUST HIM if you have invited HIM To share your day that in your God given Gift of ‘free will’ He will intervene and say NO if you are making an unwise choice, I have been with Him in my life and seen Him working both ways, Relationship Means He is Present in all things, Thank you for your blog and the chance to know about your whole family. Blessings!

    1. You got that right, my dear sister. I am so grateful we can depend on Him to steer us clear of choices that would be harmful to us. And thank YOU for reading and sharing so many wonderful insights here! I am truly grateful for you ❤ 🙂

  3. Oh this is so timely! Just yesterday I was lamenting to a friend that I keep getting defensive in a certain kind of situation so I feel like I need to avoid it. My friend said, “Well then you just need to say a little prayer about that before you start,” and I thought, “Of course; why didn’t I think of that?” So I tried it and of course it worked. I asked myself why I keep needing to be reminded to ask the Holy Spirit for help when I need it. I keep thinking that little things aren’t important enough to bother the Holy Spirit about it. And then I read this — absolutely what I needed to read exactly when I needed it. God bless you!

    1. Aw, your words make me smile with joy! I am SO very glad that this was helpful to you in your intimacy walk with Him! And that is so beautiful that He provided that help that you needed. After all, one of His names is the Helper! A fundamental part of HIs nature 🙂 🙂

  4. Starting with the small things, like what to have on toast for breakfast, helps me better hear what God is saying. This builds my confidence to talk about the bigger things, and look forward to doing so.

When I don’t ask the Holy Spirit about something and fly in blind, I know straight away if the decision I’ve made has been uplifting or damaging to me!

  5. Great post, thank you for sharing! When I was younger, I remember waiting in line at the store to purchase a CD. I didn’t have peace about it, but didn’t realise at the time it was the holy spirit‘s prompting. I went ahead and bought it anyway, and never once enjoyed it! Lesson learned! Thanks again for the excellent post.

    1. That is a wonderful example of these truths, Andy, thank you so much for sharing it! I’m smiling because I, too, remember going to the store to buy a CD and being so excited about it. I also remember buying casette tapes and being excited about it! Hehe, yep, those were younger days!
