Has There Been Some Mistake?

It’s audio devo day!

Have you ever, deep down inside, struggled with some aspect of the way you are put together? In today’s episode I am sharing my own struggle with exactly this, and how the Father lovingly led me into a better way. I believe He wants to speak to the depths of your heart about how special you are, as you listen here:

“This is what the Lord says — he who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you: Do not be afraid…” (Isa. 44:2, NIV).

Do you sense the profound affection in Daddy’s voice when He calls Himself “He who made you”? When I read this verse, I hear the overflowing tones of His heart. He is remembering with great delight the way He knit you together in your mother’s womb. He is recalling the sublime joy that surged through His soul as He drew every line and brought forth each detail of your being with stunning artistry.

He is bursting with enjoyment of the way He made you. He takes great pride in being the One who crafted a masterpiece as breathtaking as you!

Do you hear Him?

I really like your nose.

Do you hear Him?

One of My favorite things is to watch you. Your smile steals My heart, every single time.

Do you hear Him?

Your personality enthralls me. I like you. I mean, I REALLY like you.

His thoughts about you are more numerous than the sand on the seashore. He literally can’t stop thinking about you.

And yet, how often do we reject parts ourselves instead of submitting to His love? How often do we scorn aspects of our created design – that which He dreamed of eternally and then breathed into being with all the passion of His soul? How often do we imply that the Potter did a botch job on an essential element of our makeup?

For years, I held a distaste for my own voice. Specifically, its timbre. It frustrated me that so often, not even the person sitting next to me could hear me. Getting myself heard across the room was often impossible. Surely this was a crippling defect! Negative feelings about my voice frequently surrounded my unsuccessful efforts to communicate.

One day, Holy Spirit lovingly called me out on my rejection of this key component of who I am. “Precious one,” He said, “I have given you a ministry of binding up broken hearts. When you tend to deep gashes in My children’s emotions, utmost tenderness is needed. Your soft prayer voice is exactly right for gently pouring My balm of Gilead over excruciating soul wounds. A loud, boisterous timbre could startle instead of sooth. I worked healing into the very fabric of who you are. Please. Love your voice!”

Is there an aspect of yourself that you have struggled to accept? Is it possible that the Master Potter had a mindbogglingly good reason for fashioning you that way? I want to encourage you to spend some focused time with Him about this. What if you genuinely ask Him to reveal to you what He had in mind when He carefully shaped that aspect of you in your mother’s womb?

“You alone created my inner being. You knitted me together inside my mother.
I will give thanks to you because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made.
Your works are miraculous, and my soul is fully aware of this.”

(Ps. 139:13-14, GW)

“You created the deepest parts of my being.
How you made me is amazing and wonderful. I praise you for that.
What you have done is wonderful. I know that very well.”

(Ps. 139:13-14, NIrV)

Why is it so much easier to treat ourselves harshly than to nurture and cherish ourselves like Jesus nurtures and cherishes us?

  1. This was so timely for me. For most of my life I’ve been dissatisfied about parts of my personality, begging God to change it. But recently I’ve begun to wonder if those very things might have been purposefully created by God to be exactly that way.

    Blessings sister 😊

  2. Thanks for this Jenn! I love it when Holy Spirit gives me a nudge after reading about what He has done for someone else.

After reading your blog, I went to my teaching/preaching NIV bible to re-read Psalm 139, paying particular attention to verse 14. There it is rendered: I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

As I looked up fearfully and wonderfully, I discovered that this is the only time those 2 words as used in the entire Old Testament! This speaks of the incredible, loving uniqueness that Father God pours into each of us. Realizing this helps me to better understand that the 5 foot, 7 inch shy bald guy that I am is just how He intended it. How wonderful and reassuring our Creator is!

Be blessed this day Sister, as you are a blessing to so many,
    Chuck

  3. I feel like everyone can relate to this. Something had to go wrong. Why would my Creator want me to look the way I do? Why would he want me to sound the way I do? For me, I feel like it’s because I’m meant to listen. I’ve often felt like I’m meant to listen more than to be heard, and every time I listen, I learn something new. This is my greatest blessing. Thank you for the insight.
