Angels Bending Near

It came upon the midnight clear,
that glorious song of old,
from angels bending near the earth
to touch their harps of gold:
“Peace on the earth, good will to men,
from heaven’s all-gracious King.”
The world in solemn stillness lay,
to hear the angels sing.

I am convinced that God likes to get involved in our human calendar. Obviously, the Bible does not tell us that Jesus was born on December 25th. However, since we have collectively decided to celebrate His birth that day, He is all over pouring His blessing on it!

Do you sense His pleasure with our celebration of His arrival here? Every single year, I feel it. He just comes in so close at Christmastime. As the beautiful music plays honoring Him, His presence stirs in such a special way. It’s like His heart is lit up with the joy of it all. It’s as if His Holy Spirit were hovering over the season, just as He hovered over the waters during creation. And God is saying “Let there be light,” causing His glory to be shed abroad in our hearts in brand new ways… as we celebrate the dawn of redeeming grace.

It’s as if the angels are bending near the earth again. The heavenly realm gets closer during these weeks. If we look for them, there are special divine encounters planned for each one of us…

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God…” (Luke 2:13, NKJV).

Have you experienced extra intimate times with Jesus during the Christmas season?

  1. Hi Jenn! Psalm 90:12 says: Teach us to number our days aright, that we gain a heart of wisdom (NIV).
In Christmas 2020 covid-19 has brought about many changes, challenges and hardships. For me personally I have taken the forced change in schedule/ministry activity as an opportunity to grow closer to the Lord each day. I believe that is what the above quoted psalm tells us. In this season of the expectation of the birth of our Savior, using my days aright has not only helped me find new levels of joy for Christmas, but also has brought my heart to the Cross. This ultimately is what His birth is all about.
    Blessings my Sister,
    Chuck

    1. It beautifully and wonderfully is, Chuck. He came in the “body prepared for Him” to die. I praise Him with you for the wonderful ways He has been turning the hardships of this year into something wonderful for you. There is not way to express the value of that — it’s eternal!
