Slaking Jesus’ Thirst

“And He said to them, I have earnestly and intensely desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer” (Luke 22:15, AMPC).

Jesus was at the brink of the most agonizing experience any human will ever have on earth. The emotional strain of its anticipation caused Him to long for fellowship with His close friends. He knew in His soul that He would find strength, communing with them during the Passover meal.

Do you hear the depths of emotion in His words? “I have earnestly and intensely desired…” Jesus’ yearning for that moment with them was at top-volume levels.

He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Even now, He is longing to commune with us over dinner. His heart calls out to ours, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you, and you will eat with me” (Rev. 3:20, NCV).

He knows that dinner together with Him will strengthen your soul, too. During times of emotional strain, how we need to lean into fellowship with Him! He knows this. He knows that you need His company and closeness. He eagerly desires to have this with you.

His Spirit jealously yearns over us. This is why He asked the Samaritan woman for a drink. Today, He asks you for one too. Can you sense His earnest beckoning? Will you turn aside from life’s busyness to be with Him? Will you slake His thirst for fellowship with you today?

Have you ever taken time to contemplate the amazing truth that when you spend time with God, you satisfy a desire of His heart?

  2. I am a person who tries to fill every waking moment with something. I’m getting better and cutting out unnecessary and harmful things from my life, but there’s a long way to go. There are people in my life I yearn to spend time with and feel my spirit lift when we do spend time together. This is one of the ways I know it’s a worthwhile interaction: because I know God is with us. Time with God is the most fruitfully spent. Right now I’m working at spending more time with Jesus, so this message has is timely. Thank you. ♥
