“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last” (Rev. 22:13, NKJV).
To our ears, “The Alpha and the Omega” sounds lofty. To the ears of John, the man to whom God gave this revelation of Himself, this title was closer to home. Alpha and Omega were the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. It was as if Jesus revealed Himself as “The A and the Z.” Which, of course, fits perfectly with the rest of the description in this verse, “the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
Jesus literally was going back to the ABC’s to impart the message on His heart to His beloved son. He was picking something familiar to John, to bring the meaning home to him in a way that he could grasp.
In the same way, God regularly chooses symbols that mean something to us personally, to speak to our hearts. He takes the responsibility for making His communication clear to us. To fishermen, Jesus got his point across using an enormous catch of fish. To farmers, He spoke about seed, soil, and harvest. To parents, He conveyed Kingdom truth by bringing a small child to stand in their midst as visual aid.
He will always speak in our “heart language.” He will always find a way to talk to us that we can understand. I can testify to this. Several years ago, I spent a lot more time on Twitter than I do now. He would speak to me through Twitter. Once I shifted to spending more time in the blogger sphere, He also shifted right along with me, and began to speak to me through blogs that I would visit. He is watching closely what it is that has your attention, and He will speak to you through that means, if you are listening.
Jesus is literally is speaking to us constantly. Why, then, don’t we hear Him constantly? The bottom line is that we will all hear Him as much as we learn to listen for His voice. Listening is an art form that requires a whole lot of time, focus, discipline, and love. Jesus knows that not everyone is willing to put in this kind of effort. This is why He prefaces some of His statements with the words, “And if you are willing to receive it…” (Matt. 11:14, NKJV).
If we are willing. That is the defining phrase right there. The following verse in this passage goes on to say, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” (v. 15). Not everyone has ears to hear. In fact, many of us have ears but do not hear Him (Matt. 13:13-15).
If you do have ears to hear, though, I have the best news for you. You are going to be enriched beyond what you could ever fathom. Jesus loves to talk to those who diligently lean in to listen to His melodious voice. He will eagerly talk to us all day long if we will listen all day long. More on this tomorrow!
This reminds me of the song “Open my eyes, Lord, I want to see Jesus,” and especially the line “Open my ears, Lord, and help me to listen.” This is my prayer for myself today. And from Samuel’s voice at age 5, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”

Such an inspiring post! I love the idea that God speaks to us on an individual basis with our very own ‘heart language’. We speak to our children in different ways…how much more so, does God want to communicate with us. You are so right…Jesus meets us and finds us wherever we are at and whatever we are doing. We must always be open to hear His voice in our day to day lives.

That’s such a great insight into this subject, Linda, the idea of how we tailor our communication differently to each of our children based on their individual needs. That really blesses me, thank you for sharing it! ❤

Jesus Christ is the building block that allowed the darker hued in the USA to survive. Without the Church even today we would not be here. Now the challenge is how to effectively change the landscape. The Creator has a master plan, peace ✌️ and love 💕 throughout the land.🙏🐕♒️

I wholeheartedly agree, my friend. He has a beautiful, magnificent plan. I’m deeply glad you can see Him faithfully at work in our history and in our current times. May His peace be yours today 😊

Frankly the separation of church ⛪️ and state is a fallacy and inherently contradictory when we are asked to swear to the Bible that is kept separate supposedly by the very laws of the state that now, on the possible charges of perjury, demands placement of your hand on the Bible which should not be used for such a purpose. I don’t know if I was clear, but it is befuddling to say the very least.🙏

Yes, I definitely see the contradiction that you are expressing. May God continue to have mercy on the USA. I pray frequently for the nation and believe for better times ahead!

It cannot get any worse, the reversals to established laws are truly pernicious and spiritually draining the moral fibers that bind us as a people. The ascendancy of a faithless person has never been so stupefyingly divisive and the lines drawn by the different sides must be reconciled otherwise the destruction will continue as the sides adhere to their own version of moral supremacy. Top down, there has to be change before we Helter Skelter each other. 🙏♒️🐕

In 2014, I lived on 144th street and Broadway. Working overnight shift as security guard I was in Zombie land, 148th and Brook Avenue; K2 and all intoxicating drugs for sale inside my building. It was the 29th of September, I am retired from nyc department of Education. Broke and hungry with 8hrs ahead. I prayed for $3.00! Just that.
On 149 street Bridge I walked next to hospital 🏥. Waiting for me, I found a tightly rolled bundle filled with $3.00! God bless me because I only have to sincerely pray for anything and God has always provided for me. Hence knowing that I never abuse my 🎁 as God KNOWS! Really, I have been bestowed upon me a gigantic gift. Thank you for being a God lover as I am!🙏♒️🐕The dog represents my loyalty and ❤️!

Even better yet as it will resonate with you. I don’t fear any man mine eyes have seen the Coming of the Lord’s Blessings and In the Horizons there’s not a worry to ponder nor consider. Beyond the rainbows 🌈 we are all the same in God’s Wisdom only Man In his paternal best placed restrictions on our abilities to pray based on gender identity, creed and other stupid ideas. In my view the Muslims only ask that they face the East, I just pray. Period!🙏🐕♒️💯🌈🇺🇸🗳🤐🤐😹

Your thoughts remind me of the conversation Jesus had with the Samaritan woman, where she brought up the question of where worship was supposed to happen, and He answered with, “True worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth.” Anywhere, everywhere!

Good stuff, my friend! He’s actually been talking to me about that exact subject for several months now, with this verse:
“Even to your old age, I am He,
And even to gray hairs I will carry you!
I have made, and I will bear;
Even I will carry, and will deliver you.” (Isa 46:4).
It’s been very special and meaningful, so I am blessed to hear you mention it again. Thank you so much for that 🙂

I read Malcolm X Autobio 14 times before 18. He was big on word root study, prefix and suffix. Initially I said Filipina, but, then I remembered two South American sisters with a different vowel ending, a. No o. They were from 🇵🇪 and I was good friends with a P.R./Peruvian math teacher. Mr Gamarra and his future wife were So Freaking Gorgeous I could not decide who was prettier. So suffice to say I might have cheated! I have a good memory. Once my family got a free 🚕 ride because I told driver, You Are 🇷🇴! From toys are Us on 46th street and broadway to 170th and Amsterdam Avenue. Thanksgiving Day Parade, he said You know my country and I don’t know your country. Thanksgiving; free my friend, free!😆 I also guessed that you did not live in Big City. Why go to other place for THAT? Folks want freedom! Enjoy 😉🍔miss it?🙏🐕♒️

Hehe, I love your cheer, Popo. What a great story! Thanks for brightening my day with it. Arimborgo actually was orginally Arimberg, a name from Europe that got latinized. The family immigrated to Peru a few generations ago. There are also Arimborgos in the USA and some other places. As for whether I miss the U.S., maybe a little. For the most part though I am exceedingly contented living here 🙂
