“Those foolish Israelites!” We might think to ourselves, reading this story. “Didn’t they know God would keep His word to supply them with fresh manna every morning? Didn’t they know, after all the loving miracles He had performed to bring them out of slavery, that He would prove true to them?”
And yet, don’t we frequently do the same thing? Oftentimes, here we are, trying in very much the same way to dip into tomorrow’s provision. Into tomorrow’s manna. God promised to set out a fresh portion of daily bread in the morning. And the next morning. And the next. And every day for the rest of our lives. Yet we often are hunched up into knots trying to figure out a way to secure a safe tomorrow.
Is our strength enough? Is our wisdom enough? Can we carry the world on our shoulders? Can we make sure that all disasters stay far away from us and our loved ones?
“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” (Luke 12:25, NIV) Jesus was asking a very practical question here. The obvious answer being, no one. No one can increase the length (or the quality) of their life by fretting. Not a one.
Then He went on to say, “Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?” (v. 26). Both questions are rhetorical. Both questions are pointed. Both questions are meant to convince us to give up our quest to single-handedly carry the weight of the world around all day every day.
We cannot dip into tomorrow’s manna today. It’s a waste of energy to even try to do so. Striving to work out our own future in our own strength can only yield rotten, stinking, wormy results… like the Israelites’ decomposing leftovers. Here is the best way to avoid that. Let’s let Jesus carry all the days to come!
He loves you deeply, dear one. Listen — He’s speaking. “There will be manna for your tomorrow, child. I promise. Come, please unload that heavy burden here into My capable hands. You don’t need to carry that anymore. Yes, that’s right. I’ve got it. Now nestle in. Let me hold you. You’re safe here with Me. I’ve got you. I’ve got your family. I’ve got your future. Shhhhh, precious one. Rest.”

Have you been through intensive “manna training” in previous seasons? Any words of advice to share from your experiences?
His mercies are new every morning! May God bless you!✝️

lol most definitely Jennifer; wonderful observation. We need to know that GOD’s word is just enough, in that, nothing more needs to be added and nothing less needs to be taken away hahaa

Good to keep in mind as I ponder when I’ve crossed the line from “stocking up” to “hoarding.”
