(I’m re-releasing this today, as Holy Spirit nudged me to do so for such a time as this!)

“He who walks with the wise grows wise…” (Prov. 13:20, NIV).

Tell me who your closest friends are, and I will tell you who you are becoming. This verse from Proverbs assures us of this truth. Through it, Holy Spirit is spelling out for us the Law of Association. According to this law, we will become increasingly like those who are our main source of companionship. There are no exceptions, no way around it. It always happens this way.

What if we take that law, and we apply it to our relationship with the King of the universe? It works! If you will allow Him to become your closest Friend, you will find yourself internalizing His character in ever increasing measure.

I want to talk about one exceptional character trait of His that will change your life: His emotional stability. God is the most emotionally steady companion you could ever spend time with. The more you are around Him, the more serene and secure you, too, will grow to be. His nature will rub off on you in amazing ways.

What wonderful emotional strength is available through friendship with the Lord! Would you like to understand more about the stability you will develop as you walk with Him? These verses will help:

  1. “He will not falter or be discouraged…” (Isa. 42:4a, NIV). Jesus never gets down, never feels blue. He never wavers between cheerfulness and discouragement. When He considers the future, He does not hesitate or cringe. He always rejoices! The more we abide in His presence, the more His ever-present encouragement will work itself all the way into our bones.
  2. “…He does not get tired or weary…” (Isa. 40:28d, NET). Nothing tires Him out. Because He is infinite in resource, no matter how much energy He expends, it never makes even a dent in how much He has left. This means that when you and I are exhausted, we can sink into His everlasting arms and recharge.
Imagine your soul as a battery settling into its charger port. As you do so, the new power now surging into your spirit is Daddy’s measureless supply of love. His emotional strength will become more and more your own, as you learn to live in His embrace.
  3. “In Your presence is fullness of joy…” (Ps. 16:11b, NKJV). Why is there fullness of joy in His presence? Because He is full of joy! Truly, what a happy God He is! His soul is an ocean of contentment and pleasure, and He invites us to immerse ourselves in it. He beckons us to swim in His delight, to soak in it, to drink of it to our hearts’ satiation. The deeper we go into friendship with Him, the more joyful fruit will spring up from the depths of our own spirits as well.

Are you in need of greater emotional steadiness in your life? Walk with the Wisest of the wise. At His right hand are pleasures forevermore. Enjoy sweet fellowship with the Rock of Ages. As you do so, He will teach you the constancy of His ways. Little by little you will find that everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher (Luke 6:40, NIV).

  1. That’s a good word in times like these with so much uncertainty. Its been my prayer for people as well. This is a time of drawing closer…
I pray that as we all draw closer this will deepen many walks with our savior. That once things are settled there will be a continuing of faith.

  2. Emotional stability ! Jennifer, most of my earlier life, I attested that I was virtually without emotion or at best, rejected emotion. I considered it to be a sign of weakness and being to soft. Well, as years have gone by and life has taken it’s tolls, I am recognizing an aspect of humanity that I ignored. Once coming to Christ, a long time ago, I pick decided what parts of Jesus character, “I” believed to be best for me ! This is so wrong and I have paid the price multiple times in my relationships until recently. The last two years living alone has pressed me to my limit. I learned to cry and sob without the feeling of guilt and inadequecy. Jesus took me to a new level, by the Holy Spirit, into emotional stability. This is very hard to describe or define. Your message does much better then what I can put into words. Thank you, Jennifer. Len Wisniewski.
