“Mercy triumphs over judgment” (James 2:13, ESV).
“Perfect love casts out fear” (1 John 4:18, ESV).
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Rom. 12:21, ESV).
Do you see a pattern here? Overwhelmingly so, good conquers evil. Love wipes out fear. Light makes darkness instantly disappear. With His pinky finger, with a breath from His nostrils, the Lord of All causes his enemies to flee.
Fear is nothing before His mighty love.
When I woke up this morning, He was talking to my heart about this subject. He reminded me that He is not in reactive mode right now. All this Coronavirus stuff? He foresaw it all in complete detail far before Genesis 1:1 ever happened. Right now in this moment, He is seated joyfully on His throne over the universe, executing His purposes with perfect precision.
He shared with me that He planned for this season with measureless exactitude and love. A few months ago when you and I were going about normal life, entirely oblivious to what was about to unfold, He sure wasn’t. He was peacefully gearing up for these current events, getting everything in place to lead us through these trials in triumph.
As part of His organizational foresight, He prepared abundant provisions for us, His beloved children. Right now, there are extra stores of supernatural peace, supernatural joy, and supernatural restfulness in heavenly places that He specifically made ready for this time. My dear friend, I have some amazing news for you. His shelves never run out. His provision is right there for you, closer than your heartbeat. What He has stored up for this time is not at all difficult or complicated to access. In spirit, there’s an ease for receiving right now. Simply open up your heart and receive what He is extending to you with childlike faith.
I want to also mention this. There are two ways to battle the fear that is trying to wound the human race right now. One way is quite ineffective, and the other is powerfully effective. Here’s the first. You can try to keep fear at bay by resisting it in your own strength. I’m going to tell you, though, you won’t get very far that way. The right way – the way God is holding forth to us right now – is to connect into that warehouse of heavenly supply that He prepared for this time.
Start with this. We’ve heard so much about social distancing. You know what is the most important kind of distancing right now? Distancing ourselves from sources that operate in a spirit of fear. I’m not suggesting we ignore our governments’ dictates on limiting social contact. But what is wayyyyyy more vital, to our beating this attack on our world, is distancing ourselves from the contagion of fear.
Visualize this. Have you seen, either in real life or on tv, a place where raw sewage comes out of a big wide pipe and dumps into a natural water source for humans? Disgusting, right? That’s exactly what happens in spirit, though, when you keep the news on all the time in your house. Turn it off. Pick one or two sources that report the news in a minimally negative way. Check in maybe once a day. Maybe less. Try just reading it and not even watching it. Keep yourself as far from the contagion of fear as you possibly can. Your spiritual and emotional health, and the health of your household, depend on it.
Focus instead on making your home a refuge full of the presence of God. Lose yourself in worship. It’s the best way to connect with what Heaven wants to pour into your heart right now. And what a better time to do so, then while we’re all confined to our homes? It’s almost like a mandated time of retreat.
You can use this time in such a special way. You want to make sure everyone in your household is intaking wayyyy more of heaven’s supplies than what is coming out of the media’s sewage pipes. I propose this simple formula: for every one piece of negative incoming information, you make sure and consume seven pieces of Holy Spirit, life-giving truth – whether that be a portion of Scripture, a podcast, a praise song, a prayer in agreement with a friend, or however Holy Spirit leads you.
In fact, why not make it your goal to double or triple your time in prayer, worship, and the Word for as long as this craziness lasts? You and your family need His presence more now than ever. AND you have the perfect opportunity to take your relationship with Him deeper right now. After all, you don’t have anything better to do at the moment, do you? The gyms are closed. The restaurants are closed. The theaters are closed. There is so much extra time on your hands! Hey, while you’re at it, why not set aside a whole day and declare it a spiritual retreat day for your family?
You know what, dear one? There is SO MUCH PEACE available right now. Let’s apply Romans 12:21 to our lives and overcome evil with good. I love this verse because it shows us how much more powerful good is than evil… how much more powerful peace is than worry… and how much more powerful love is than fear!
Do you need the peace of God to crush satan under your feet today? Get lost in His presence. Do you need the Father’s perfect love to cast all fear far from your emotions right now? Get lost in His presence. Do you need His light to dispel the darkness trying to make your soul sad in these moments? Get lost in His presence. In His presence, there is fullness of joy!
Dearly loved child of God, I want you to hear this with your spirit. Jesus says to you, “Every detail of your body and soul — even the hairs of your head! — is in my care; nothing of you will be lost.” (Luke 21:18). You are perfectly safe. You, your family, your country, your world, and your future are in His big, beautiful, all-powerful hands. Nothing in all of creation can snatch you out of that protected place in Him.
Let’s do it, precious family. He has made available everything we need for such a time as this. Let’s receive from Heaven what He has prepared for us… and overcome evil with good.
How about you? What has been helping you find center in Jesus during these unprecedented times?
