“‘But let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,’ declares the Lord” (Jer. 9:24, NIV).
I have to do some boasting about my Jesus today. According to this verse, that’s the kind of boasting we’re supposed to practice, right? Today*, my dear friends, we are celebrating Lily’s seventh birthday!! Just seven months ago, she was lying in a coma, hooked up to life support. A machine was doing her breathing for her. Doctors and nurses were using the word “maybe” about her survival. Today, she is alive, vibrant, strong, and full of joy! Rejoice with me, brothers and sisters!!! Faithful is He who has promised!!
Once again, overwhelmed happy tears moistened my eyes as I embraced her and sang Happy Birthday to her this morning. Indeed, our precious Lord exercises kindness on the earth, just like Jeremiah 9:24 says. So, I’m getting my praise on today! “My soul shall make its boast in the Lord!” (Ps. 34:2, NKJV).
Today, a picture comes to my mind as I reflect on the Lord’s faithfulness. It’s a memory of two sweet young boys who sent a video greeting to Lily while she was in the hospital. These little guys, around three and four years old, emptied out their piggy banks to send Lily a love offering on their video. With priceless, childlike faith, they expressed their heartfelt desire for her healing, complete with a beautiful prayer.
I’m going to keep on bragging on my Daddy God. I treasure that memory in my heart. It speaks to me of His vast love for us. It also symbolizes the immense outpouring of generosity from beautiful souls all over in our time of need. You know what? We didn’t have any money at all to cover Lily’s medical bills. You can imagine how extensive they were, including three weeks in the ICU, another week in a regular room in the country’s best children’s hospital, and to top it off, the bill for airlifting her out of the jungle into the capital city of Lima. But God!
Every day, the gifts kept pouring in. Again, this was another overwhelming aspect of our experience of feeling indescribably loved during that painful trial. People I have not seen in at least twenty years gave to Lily. People from my high school graduating class gave to Lily. Distant relatives gave to her. People from churches all over the place gave to her. We even had a stranger (to this day I have no idea who she is) give us $3,000 for her. By the time the day came for Lily’s release from the hospital, every last medical bill was paid in full.
How faithful is our Jesus!!! How good He is! How kind, how generous, how tender! How immensely loving!
Do you have an urgent need weighing on your heart today? Do you, or someone you cherish, need healing? Guidance? Peace? Financial provision? I testify to you today, the same Jehovah Jireh who has taken beautiful care of me and my family will take beautiful care of you and yours. To provide for you is in His very nature. Put your trust in Jesus, dear one. He loves you so deeply. He delights in every opportunity to exercise His endless kindness towards you. He will prove Himself faithful as your Provider!
