The Breathtaking Gift of You

Be Yourself

If you haven’t already, check out the audio version of my devos 🙂 (Also my new exciting ANNOUNCEMENT has been released on the audio version only!) Here’s today’s:

************************************************

“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well” (Ps. 139:14, NKJV).

I want to talk to you today about you being you.

Listen, we need you. The world needs you. Never in the history of humankind was a person ever born that could fulfill your destiny… until your birth day came along. Which reminds me of something I heard Bill Johnson preach recently: “If you only understood how breathtaking your own personal creation design is, you would never want to be anyone else.”

This is profound, crucially vital truth for you. You truly are fearfully and wonderfully made. Daddy’s works are astonishing. He put an eternity of thought into making you exactly who you are. He doesn’t secretly prefer for you to be someone else, someone “better.” He doesn’t desire for you to try to make your life a copy of Joyce Meyers, or LeBron James, or Mother Teresa, or Bill Gates, or whoever else you admire.

He also doesn’t want you wistfully wishing you were more like that individual you see on Facebook who seems to be doing amazing things with their life. He deeply longs for you to simply take honest to goodness pleasure in… being you.

You are delightful.

You are a gift.

You are utterly important.

You are unreservedly essential.

We really, really need you to be you.

God gave you a unique set of fingerprints because He wants you to look at them and remember… in all of the history of the human race, there is only one you. Please don’t waste this one lifetime you have – this one shot at endowing us all with the riches of who you are – wishing you were more like someone else. Embrace being you today, and intentionally fling the dead-end comparisons far away from your mind.

As Oscar Wilde so aptly put it, “Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.”

Please, don’t hold back from us the gift of you. Be yourself today. The world around you is indescribably enriched as you shine forth the uniqueness of you. Remember. You were created with a purpose impossible to replicate in any other life… that no one else but you can fulfill!

*********************************************

What is one thing about your unique, God-breathed design, that you know is a blessing to others? I’d love to hear about it!

  1. While the post is spot-on (I’ve preached about this same topic), I’m uncomfortable with the question. I don’t like to consider myself a blessing to others; I hope that I am, perhaps others speak of me in this way, but that’s not for me to say. I am a simple tool in God’s hands. — Mike

    1. (A late reply, as things have been non-stop with our travels). I definitely hear you on that! There was a C.S. Lewis quote I read that was very helpful to me on the subject. He was talking about how the gifts and talents God gave us are something we can take no more credit for than the color of our hair, and that just as we might enjoy the goodness of whatever other gift outside ourselves, we can also take joy in His bestowals of grace that happen to take the form of our own giftings. I do believe He intends for us have that joy, with humble gratitude 🙂

  2. Thank You Father, for my deep desire to know You more each day, to reveal to others, that which You bless me with. Though my flesh, the world and the enemy, never cease to attack my thoughts of You, Spirit defeats the overwhelming battle that takes place. Until I stand in Your Holy presence, Lord Jesus, I will draw closer to You today. Amen Len W.

  3. This is so powerful. Exactly, each person has its own calling. I, myself, believe my calling is for teaching/sharing God’s word. I used to be a small group leader in our church in my homecountry. But when I moved to another country, I lost it…. but This time, I want to find myself again teaching and sharing the word of God. This is what am here, therefore, that is what am going to do. ✨
