Staying out of the Pigsty

“But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: ‘A dog returns to his own vomit,’ and, ‘a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.’” (2 Peter 2:22, NKJV)

Would you like to know one of the best ways to make sure we don’t become like the proverbial dog or sow mentioned here by the Apostle Peter? It’s asking the Lord to reveal to our hearts how pure He has already made us! Let me explain.

God wants to give you a revelation of how immaculately clean He has made you through Jesus’ blood. Your righteousness has nothing to do with how well you have “performed” recently as a Christian. Rather, it has everything to do with the blood of His everlasting covenant. With His very own blood, He has purchased you and made you holy. Completely by His initiative and His merit, you are right with Him.

The book of Hebrews teaches us that we enter God’s presence through the “veil” of Jesus’ body (Heb. 10:20). This means that, the very moment that you draw near to the Father, whether you realized it or not, you move through that veil. That veil, His body, was the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

The moment you move through the sacrifice that was made for you, you are instantly cleansed once again. It’s actually impossible to approach God without getting cleansed in the process. The mere action of coming to Him purifies you because you always come through the veil of Jesus’ body. It’s the only way we have access to the Most Holy Place.

So not only did He cleanse you the day you received Him as Savior, but He continues to cleanse you every single time you talk to Him! Even when you don’t think to ask for it!

God made your body a holy habitation for His presence. He has joined His Spirit to your spirit and called you worthy to host His glory. By the blood of Jesus, you are immaculately pure.

When you have a wonderful hot shower and come out fragrant, fresh and renewed, are you going to want to have immediate contact with dirt and grime? Most definitely not! In the same way, once you really get in your heart the revelation of how clean Jesus’ blood has made you, you won’t want to go back to wallowing in the mud!

“You were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Cor. 6:11, NLT).

Do you ever visualize the blood of Jesus washing you clean?

  2. No, but I know that our Christ Jesus is the advocate to His Father and as I pray I know this cleanses me thru Him. He laid His Blood upon the Alter in heaven and the Father accepted it. :))
