Elijah was a frail human just like you and I are frail humans. His human vulnerability is actually seen immediately following this epic story of triumph recorded in 1 Kings 18, as he goes running for his life with a death wish wrapped around his emotions. The point is, frail humans are God’s chosen instruments for moving massive mountains on this earth. Are you feeling wobbly today? GREAT! You are a perfect candidate to be used mightily by Him!
What captures my attention about this story is Elijah’s sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Long before there was any audible noise of rain in the natural realm, he had already heard the sound of a torrential downpour in spirit. So convinced was he of what his Lord had shown him, that a minute little cloud was enough of a sign for him. He was so tuned into God’s subtleties that he recognized the miniscule wisp of moisture particles as Heaven’s communication.
He ran with it. He moved into action immediately, releasing the monumental prophetic announcement, “The drought is over!” And truly, it was.
When you have been praying and praying, and all you can see on the horizon of your circumstances is a tiny, subtle shift, how do you respond? In spite of being a frail human like Elijah, will you believe what God has promised you? Will you run with it?

What does the “cloud the size of a man’s hand” represent to you?
Feeding On Jesus 
For me, that small cloud is a reward for staying the course in unwavering faith. For a non-believer, it would have been just a cloud; Elijah knew better. We receive similar rewards, if we are patient and paying attention.

Just like us wobbly humans. With God’s help we wobble but we won’t fall down!

I particularly like Elijah’s perspective. He celebrated the little he could see and God magnified Himself as a result by bringing down rain. I wrote something similar to this post a while ago. Link is below if you want to read 🙂

I was on the original board of a Christian school that was just starting up, amid threats of a lawsuit from the local public school district, lack of a facility, and other (as yet) major unmet needs. As we bowed our heads to pray at the first board meeting, one of the men groaned, “O Lord, I feel SO inadequate!”
My immediate thought was, “We’re going to be OK.”
(We were. God got us through a lot in the coming years, and it’s now a wonderful school with a great staff and a couple hundred students.)

Thank you Jennifer. Wobbly human beings indeed. Love your reference to Elijah; God the Holy Spirit was with him but not all the time. only when he needed to have Godly insight or miracle enabling (healing of the widows son). Praise God that the wobbly human beings at Pentecost suddenly became mighty people of faith. Now in our day wobbly humans often struggling in our humanity have the provision of God the Holy Spirit indwelling 24 hours a days. Our big problem is that we keep wobbling onwards even though we are following the risen Saviour and don’t look upwards and Thank God that He lives within. Wobbly ones all. We do have Divine help ever available.

I so love this Jennifer. I am so frail, so wobbly, so stupid, so busy, so worldly. I forget and take advantage of so much. But when I have the slightness nudge, goosebumps, the tiniest glimpse of this cloud (this personal connection) even for a tiny second. I run full force to my knees with the greatest of gratitude. And pray for more MORE!!! I LOVE YOU!!!
