25 Reasons for Christmas

“And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matt. 1:21, NKJV)

The beautiful day has arrived. My dear friend, Merry Christmas! On this glorious occasion, let’s let the living Word speak right to our hearts. In solemn, jubilant celebration of our Savior’s coming, let’s meditate deeply on His premeditated purpose in emptying Himself and became one of us. Jesus Himself gives us explanation of that majestic, holy, silent night. Here are twenty-five of His reasons why:

  1. To save us from our sins (Matt. 1:21)
  2. To establish His never-ending Kingdom (Luke 1:32-33)
  3. To show us His strength (Luke 1:51)
  4. To lift up the lowly (Luke 1:52)
  5. To fill the hungry with good things (Luke 1:53)
  6. To shower us with His mercy (Luke 1:72)
  7. To keep His covenant oath (Luke 1:73)
  8. To deliver us from our enemies (Luke 1:74)
  9. To empower us to serve Him without fear (Luke 1:74)
  10. To gift us with a life before Him marked by a perpetual state of imputed righteousness (Luke 1:75)
  11. To impart to us a deep heart knowledge of the forgiveness of our iniquities (Luke 1:77)
  12. To give light to all who sit in darkness and death (Luke 1:79)
  13. To guide our feet into the path of peace (Luke 1:79)
  14. To preach the good news to the poor (Luke 4:18)
  15. To heal the brokenhearted (Luke 4:18)
  16. To proclaim liberty to the captives (Luke 4:18)
  17. To restore sight to the blind (Luke 4:18)
  18. To liberate the oppressed (Luke 4:18)
  19. To announce the manifestation of God’s favor (Luke 4:19)
  20. To provide for us life, and life more abundantly (John 10:10)
  21. To reveal to us the Father (John 1:18)
  22. To baptize us with the Holy Spirit (John 1:33)
  23. To destroy the devil (Heb. 2:14)
  24. To seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10)
  25. To serve, and give His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45)

The book of Revelation calls Jesus “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Rev. 13:8, NKJV). From all of eternity past, Jesus saw Himself coming to earth to be slaughtered for our salvation. For endless ages before God even created the earth, He dreamed of the moment that He would reconcile us to Himself. The precision in His planning goes beyond anything you and I can even begin to fathom.

Jesus did not casually say to Himself, “Oh, I’ll just slip on a human body for a bit and see how things unfold.” No; He was consumed with fiery passion, zeal, and purpose as He moved Himself into Mary’s womb. From an eternal perspective, He was already slain. From an eternal perspective, you were already His. He already had you in His arms. He was born in Bethlehem to make His eternal dream come true.

“Then I said, ‘Here I am — it is written about me in the scroll — I have come to do your will, O God’” (Heb. 10:7, NIV).

Merry Christmas, precious, beloved child of God! You are eternally loved!

What specific aspect of His first coming are you especially treasuring today?

  1. Holy, Holy, Holy is the Name of Jesus ! My soul is filled with Joy that I am one of many, this season of celebration, that was selected by the FATHER, for all time as His child, to worship His Son. Amen. Len Wisniewski

  2. I’m focusing on the idea that the King of Kings, the Word made flesh, not only lowered Himself to become human, but entered this world in utter humility, in terms of the surroundings. This should encourage every one of us that we don’t have to have a five-star background in order to do great things; we just need to let Jesus in, and do as He would have us do!
