Small Beginnings: Where Our Life or Death Harvest Is Born

Harvest verse

“For who dares make light of small beginnings?” (Zech. 4:10, NET)

Have you ever seen a person born adult sized? Me neither. (Which is a relief to all of us who have given birth 😉 ) Absolutely everything that is now big was once small. Nothing ever starts out massive.

The heavenly realms are extremely fertile. Your actions today take root and begin to grow. One who has no understanding of seed time and harvest in spirit will take no heed to his or her conduct. The small beginnings of growth can be so imperceptible initially that the individual thinks their words and deeds are of no consequence. Biblically speaking, this is foolishness.

Both for life and for death, there is immense power in a seed. Every single decision, every single thought, every single word sown into the atmosphere today sets a growth pattern in motion.

This truth holds both warning and encouragement for us. For the soul under the false impression that they are successfully experimenting with the devil’s wares without being burned, the Holy Spirit speaks forth a warning with stern love. “Make no mistake about this: You can never make a fool out of God. Whatever you plant is what you’ll harvest” (Gal. 6:7-8, GW).

Rick Joyner says it well: “If you do not change your course, you will end up where you are headed.” Let’s let God radically uproot any wrong seeds we have sown before they become a harvest of death!

Here’s the glorious flipside of this principle: if you have been long sowing to the Spirit, your upcoming harvest of life and peace is equally inevitable! Just as God cannot be mocked, it’s likewise impossible for Him to unjustly forget about the way you have faithfully obeyed Him in the midst of painful circumstances.

You cannot outgive our breathtakingly extravagant Daddy. Do not despise the small beginnings of harvest growth; no one in the universe has ever given a more unfailing, trustworthy guarantee than the Father’s! “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up” (Gal. 6:9, NLT).

What kind of seeds are you sowing today for tomorrow’s harvest?

  1. I pray, dear Jennifer, that the seeds I plant this day are of the best variety. Those that the Holy Spirit has placed within my heart. When seeds of the flesh are made evident, I will cast them aside and give thanks for the gift of discernment. I will not return to those good seeds to view their progress, but trust that they are in good hands and good soil. Again I thank you. len wisniewski

  2. What a great and encouraging post. Thank you dear Jennifer. My prayer is that in my life NOW (I can see the end is so much shorter by far than the beginning) But NOW, this I know…..I will never stop learning about my God. Abba Father is closer but my learning about HIM is still like a little child and I am grateful and thankful indeed for every new insight and unfolding. With my last breath I pray I will be learning and growing. My prayer also is that in the past when I did not KNOW HIM as I do now the seeds I sowed as I journeyed through this life though fragile, and maybe unformed, will be watered by the Spirit and somewhere perhaps, probably unseen by me, a harvest will come. Blessings and Peace to you and yours.

  3. What a blessing you are:) the heart you have is incredible. If you don’t mind me asking, how did you get into the mission field? I want to be doing God’s work right now, but I don’t where to start. God bless:)

    1. Thank you so very much, Mariah! I met the people that I currently serve with on a missions trip in 1996 with my church, and the door opened from there. If you would like to hear the story more in detail, it’s in my book 😉. How wonderful that you have that desire! I know Daddy God will show you the way ❤️
